How far have you gone to satisfy it?
>>
>>12247810
No, I use the controller that's plugged into the left slot.
>>
My autism controller is a wireless player two controller with a functional mic that doesn't make any noise unless you hit a button on the controller or something to that effect. Could have a switch on the inside that either grounds the mic or hooks it up to the receiver. The trouble is it would be a giant pain in the ass to make one that isn't all shitty looking. And there's not much reward because the mic is mostly useless

I want original controllers. Probably the furthest I've gone was swapping out the P2 D-pad and A/B membranes from a currently non-working FC into the P1 controller of my Twin Famicom to get minimally used official membranes.
As far as square rubber button Famicom controllers, Nintendo changed those out quickly enough that I guess I would consider the standard plastic circle buttons to be fine. Granted I've never played with the square buttons (I think I have a square controller that's missing one of the buttons), so who knows, maybe I'd prefer it.
I'm OK with the dogbone too, but it does feel less like the legit experience than a rectangular controller, be it a FC, Twin, or NES.

>Square controller
>Round buttons

>Slightly rounded off controller
>Square buttons
Does Nintendo really?
>>
I paid about $160 in total to play VS. Super Mario Bros. with the original arcade parts. Worth it tbqh.

I mostly care about button layout. With my MiSTer, I use:
>Saturn controller
Genesis/Saturn/PC Engine/NeoGeo
>PS5 controller
PS1/SNES
>N64 controller
N64/GBC/GBA/NES/SNES

Not terribly far, I only stopped using pic related recently because I wanted something wireless.

You got a Red Tent for $160? Amazing
>>
back when I had a real console it had to be the OEM or I would be repulsed because I was used to a certain standard. but for some reason none of that matters emulating on PC now and Ill use anything no problem. Hell I have hundreds of hours playing melee on slippi with an xbox layout controller and I have zero issues with it.

I only bought the controls.

So
>mayflash F500 V2 $60
>nintendo 8-way lever $50
>2x nintendo buttons $50

Yes, $25 per button.

>back when I had a real console it had to be the OEM or I would be repulsed
I was often the opposite because I felt like it was more cool and "pro" to use a 3rd party controller.
>>
>>12248326
I've been using the wireless version of this for like 20 years (cordless rumblepad 2)
>>
I play Genesis, Snes and N64 games with their rightful controllers. Everything else works better with either an arcade stick or PS4 controller

No. Early Famicom controllers were a disaster with these square rubber buttons often becoming stuck.
>>
>>12247810
>squishy buttons
>cord on the side
>a fucking microphone and volume silder
dafuq was nintendo of japan thinking?

I tried playing on Slippi with my DS3, but it just never felt right. Part of it is the stick placement and the triggers being convex, of course, but still, even though I could make do, I always felt like I couldn't do things quite as well as I could with a GC controller. So I finally rectified this with a Mayflash adapter, making sure to overclock it, and now all is right with the world.
>>
If you didn't play with the original OEM controller you didn't beat the game.
>>
I usually try to use original controllers or the closest replicas for emulating, like the NES and SNES Classic controllers with a USB dongle (the RetroCultMods V3 nunchuck port dongle, supposed to have the least input lag). I prefer to use replicas because their buttons are how they would feel out of the box rather than loose and used. The N64 controller for the Switch is supposed to have a good replica analog stick but not loose like used original ones you'll find, so I'll probably get that when I want to emulate a lot of N64 games. I think the GameCube controller is also acceptable for N64 emulation because the stick housing is notched, but it doesn't fully satisfy my autism.

well the dualshock is dogshit for anything that isnt a 2d game or fighter so that makes sense. I actually prefer xbox stick to gamecube controller now because short hap lasers are waaay easier (jump button is right next B unlike the GC). though you could also just remap jump to z button to fix that but I dont want to relearn muscle memory again.

Not really, I won't play paddle games without a paddle controller but I think that's pretty normal

Depends on how unique the console's authentic controller is.

>Nes, Master System, PC-Engine
The layouts are similar so my criteria is they're just 2 buttons and a proper dpad (that disqualifies the Master System's first party controller)
>Mega drive, Saturn
I'll use the saturn 2D controller as that's my favourite controller and it's similar enough to the MD's 6 button controller
>snes, PlayStation, xbox
Controversially I'd use a Gulikit Elves pro, because it's basically the same layout as the SNES and PlayStation, but with the Saturn-like shape and d-pad I prefer. Xbox is "close enough" as games for the xbox were often intended to be multiplats on the ps2 anyway.
>Gamecube, N64, Dreamcast
They're unique enough that it feels wrong to give them a generic modern-style controller - but I also don't like the original controllers either. So I go with the Retro Fighters' ones that try to find a compromise that still feels somewhat "authentic".
>Shmups and fighting games (regardless of console)
A general purpose arcade stick
>>
I use PSX/PS2 pads for almost everything but I did buy a 50$ adapter from raphnet to use an NES pad on PC which I use for everything that doesn't require more buttons
>>
use 8bitdo SN30 (replica SNES controller) for NES/SNES
use 8bitdo M30 (replica saturn controller) for genesis
use xbox controller for PS1/6th gen+

would like to get at DS4 at some point for PS1/PS2. and then also something like a brawler for N64 games.

I guess it was devs just getting used to it and not realizing what people outside of the developers would think. I'm not sure how long square button Famis were on the market, but it seems like Nintendo switched to the plastic circle buttons pretty quickly.
