I honestly don't get lucasarts humor at all and if you're not on board with that these games just have nothing to them. The series falls into a rare spot where it's mostly kid friendly just with a few occasional situations or references that are a little not so kid friendly, eg mild violence or swearing, but never to the point that it's gratuitous or crass. I guess to be safe, they just made the cartoon totally kid friendly. I happen to like the cartoon but I can see why it was disappointing to fans at the time since it toned down what was already pretty toned down humor
