This could have been such a great game but there is so many annoying things, so much forced damage, the bot fights, or the defend the core missions which are basically timed. That's without even mentionning the lives/save system, as you're supposed to do the entire Hard missions path with a maxium of 5 lives (assuming you even managed to unlock the path without losing a single life because it keeps track), no saving, and of course the final boss consists in plunging yourself in acid to pull switches, acid which drains your entire HP in mere seconds, so if you don't have extra lives there you're basically fucked. The entire idea that you must fight bosses until they only have 10% HP left and then they magically stop taking any damage and you're supposed to flee the levels, only because you have to "refight them but for real" at the end, is also retarded. There is nothing wrong with having a boss ruh of previous bosses even if they were already defeated, but no I guess my game about space bikes and killer robots must have a "realistic" story (except that bosses magically not taking any damage anymore isn't so "realistic").Also yes I know you can farm lives but only on the first Hard mission and even then it's an exploit so you might as well use a cheat code too. You can also switch which character you're playing as mid campaign as you unlock better ones but that's also an exploit.
>>12250720Chick on the cover looks like she’s made Forsucken
>>12250720>and of course the final boss consists in plunging yourself in acid to pull switches, acid which drains your entire HP in mere seconds, so if you don't have extra lives there you're basically fucked. You can shoot the switches so you don't have to be in the acid for a long time if at all. The boss is in the center and the pool is sectioned off in 4 sections. The acid doesn't flow all the way up to the boss platform so you can Hobe above the acid while hugging the center platform to not get hit by the boss and quickly try to Snipe the switch and move off to the next one.My only problem with the game were the durable turrets that have instant zap lasers. Seeing how there's not a lot of life pick ups in the hard course you just end up doing lame strats like peaking around the corner enough so a turret doesn't trigger and then fire your dual lasers so one hits the wall you're hinding behind and the other fires beyond the corner and connecting with the turret.
i still think they put this bitch on the cover so people thought it was kate winslet
>>12250729Oh shit, I didn't realize you could shoot those type of switches because they were pull switches. Damn. For the laser turrets, you can get under them to avoid them targetting you, but of course you're going to eat shit until you can position yourself and this doesn't work if there are other turrets or enemies targetting you. There are also safe spots for other type of turrets like the rocket ones if you can get behind them. But yes, turrets are a pain. But I guess my most major gripe is the lives/save system, when I died on the Hard path close to the end I was like NOPE I'm not redoing the level where you have to fight 3 bots in a row, time to activate the "unlock all levels" cheat code.Other than that it's just a lot of small things that I don't like but they pile up.
and despite everything it's still 100x more fun than the corner peeking simulator descent
Also even after beating the game I still don't know what the fuck is up with the weapons system. Sometimes when I pick up a weapon it makes other weapons I had disappear, but sometimes it doesn't. One time I couldn't pick up a weapon because it said I already had it, but was unable to switch to said weapons. >>12250859I still haven't played Descent; I was holding off on Forsaken for this reason but Descent seems such a commitment between the 3 games, the expansion, and the PSX exclusive levels that I decided what the hell, let's do Forsaken first.
I remember the PS1/PC and N64 versions were actually different games. While essentially the same game the objectives were different. How is the nightdive remaster, is it based strictly on the PC version?>>12250726>>12250735chick actually got naked for the advertisements
>>12252172Apparently the Nightdive version has all the PC level and the N64 levels as extra. I don't know how it handles all of the content.
Game's pretty good but yeah its hard as fuck, you need to farm extra lives or else you're not beating the hard route.->>12252172The PC and PS1 versions are the same game afaik while the N64 is kind of a "remix" version of it.PS1 version runs at 60fps which is very impressive for the level of detail the game has (even if it has a decent amount of framedrops)
I'm playing the PSX version now and I'm enjoying it a lot more than the N64 version. There are more enemies but there are also a lot more ammo and weapons available so the whole thing is a lot more intense, and I think the level design is better too. Biker enemies also are much easier to deal with and not a pain like on N64.The only thing I don't like is that it's password only and if you fail against a timed mission it's back to the title screen so the extra lives you collected so far are gone, it should have used one of those lives instead. Also I had to remap the controls in the emulator to reverse the 2 analog sticks so that left is move and right is look because the game lets you remap other controls but not that.>inb4 why not play the PC versionSeveral reasons actually: PSX version has some differences anyway, I couldn't get the OG PC version to run even with fan patches (probably because my GPU is dead) and I'm not playing memedive's mememasters
>>12250720It's way better on PCAlso it's free at this point with ForsakenXJust do yourself a favor and stay off the N64 toddler machine for games like this. It's like complaining that the quake 2 port was butchered. Like, duh.
>>12250894>Descent seems such a commitment between the 3 games, the expansion,Literally no one played anything except descent 2 for more than an hour Tho desu I really enjoyed d3:mercenaries and d2: vertigo But you can skip descent 3 and mercs for sure. But do play descent freespace ;)
>>12252703Both the N64 versions of Forsaken and Quake 2 are worth playing even if you've played the PC versions because they have completely different levels, so it's like playing expansion packs. No need to be a PC warrior about it.
>>12250720A shame Acclaim never made Forsaken 2>>12252707>Both the N64 versions of Forsaken and Quake 2 are worth playing even if you've played the PS1/PC versions because they have completely different levels, so it's like playing expansion packsWhat other games were different between consoles? Off the top of my head I can rememberRayman 2The World is not EnoughMortal Kombat TrilogySouth ParkGex 1/64Mission ImpossibleAny others?
>>12253171Isn't South Park identical accross all 3 platforms? Mission Impossible and Gex 2/3 only have 1 level difference
>>12250720>>12250735I remember seeing the cover in rental stores. Never even came close to checking it out because of it, probably the absolute worst cover choice they could've came up with.My kid mind categorized it as likely some kind of shitty wrestling game or something and just skipped over it.Does look like a pretty decent game though.
Meanwhile, in Europe
