It's still my favorite solely for the sheer amount of sequence breaking shenanigans you can do. Prime 1 is the only other game in the series that comes close, and it's still pretty far from what Super has available.

>sheer amount of sequence breaking shenanigans you can doOkay, so you don't actually enjoy the game for what it is, but how you can break it.
>>12251445Yeah. In addition to the base game being fun, on future playthroughs you can break it in all sorts of fun and interesting ways.this isn't the "gotcha" you think it is
metroid is the biggest slop that there is and people pretend its some gaming masterpiece
>le slopopinion disregarded
>>12251445I don't enjoy sequence breaking but love Super and think it's the best metroid. It subtly guides you through the intended path without making you feel like a retard. You feel like you're just naturally exploring but it leads you through a perfectly paced game. The moments of backtracking always feel rewarding because you're using new abilities and thinking about the map differently. Most other metroidvanias, especially modern ones, are just not well designed>too much focus on sequence breaking and being open. No intended path, and so no pacing. Big spikes in action and then boring backtracking.>too much focus on melee combat instead of traversing the map>not enough focus on platforming>too long>too much repetition>areas too samey / bad aesthetics>long lore dumps, cutscenes, or other things like NPCs or crafting taking away from core gameplay
>>12251445>you don't actually enjoy the game for what it isbut that's what the game is.
>>12251485If you aren't enthralled by the game's atmosphere, you are a hylic and probably fail the new captcha several times in a row
>>12251428>Prime 1 is the only other game in the series that comes closeZero Mission is effectively completely open after the power grip save the forced stealth section, with a major skip and early Varia acquisition leading up to it. NES was designed around doing it in whatever order you want after getting bombs. Return/Returns have an overall linear structure but you're pretty free to complete each level as you please, along with finding lots of offensive and health upgrades using good platforming
Probably my all time favorite. First video game I ever got REALLY into. I fondly remember my Mom and Dad having their own save and playing it, before they stopped playing with me entirely. We all finished it though none of us ever found the Spring Ball. One of the best soundtracks especially, that boss fight/escape song still sticks in my head decades later.
>>12251485You only hate it because you're trans and hate non trans women or incel and hate a woman protag. I can't see any legit complaint from zoomers ever, at best they say it controls bad because they grew up with six fen and up where literally no games have unique controls nor take skill, people complain about extremely specific timing like SMtroud wall jump or Shinobi double jump, but git gud?
It's still my favorite solely for the map. I think it has the perfect map in the entire genre, and the perfect level of handholding, exploration but also freedom (from a casual perspective, not even talking about sequence breakingit's biggest blunder is the grapple beam but luckily there' a few parts where you can just speedboost/shinespark to avoid using that instead
>>12251428This game and Prime 1 let you literally do anything you want. It's incredible.
