Just picked up a Nintendo 64 off of Craigslist about an hour ago. Put it in my garage and came out to plug it in. Noticed it had a weird smell to it and it was very dirty so I opened it up and found a bunch of dead bugs inside of it. I think they have all passed since but this is pretty fucking disgusting. Should I try to clean this up and use it? I'm pretty grossed out by it. I've since moved out back to my truck because I don't want bedbugs or cockroaches or whatever this is inside my home.
>>12251506That's normal, they help electricity flow better.
>>12251506just take it apart and clean it. i do that whenever i buy used hardware regardless. people are fucking disgusting.
>>12251506>Should I try to clean this up and use it?Were you planning on throwing it out?
>>12251506You've got a roach console, sorry OP. Tear it down all the way and clean it up.
those arent the only bugs youll be dealing with
>>12251513Yes. If I do that I'm only out $20 and drive time and gas.
>>12251506>Keep buying original hardware they said>Clone consoles and reproduction hardware is not le original they said
>>12251506open it up with a screwdriver, prolly the easiest console ever made to open. blow it out with a leaf blower, soak all the plastic pieces in warm water with dish soap and dry, manually clean the robot bits with some alcohol and qtips. it'll be like new.
Always check reviews and ask for more pictures if you're buying hardware. Gross
>>12251518it's not hard to find original hardware that wasn't kept in a bug-infested hoarder house
>>12251530What if I just want a new system? Modern outs are a plus. These are all 30 years old or something now. We can make them cheap, in fact we do. We have the technology.
>>12251506Just because the bugs are all dead, doesn't mean their eggs are all dead.Unless you wanna return it to the original owner, I'd suggest taking it apart entirely, washing all the non-electronic parts thoroughly, and going through all the electronic parts with isopropyl or something similar. Then finally once you're done you can place it all in a sealed plastic bag for a week and hope like hell there ain't nobody greeting you when you open it up.When disassembling ensure all parts remain within your sight at all times. You only need one bug crawling into your home to have an infestation for a lifetime so fucking bad you'd rather burn the place down than live in it.
>>12251535>Just because the bugs are all dead, doesn't mean their eggs are all dead.Yeah exactly. OP should be grateful. He got a free game. he can pretend he is like Samus and clean all the bugs out of the system then eliminate their eggs. Why is he even complaining? Faggot.
>>12251516Instead of throwing it in the garbage, can you mail it to me? I'll pay for shipping. I'm joking. You should do what this anon >>12251519 said. Do all that stuff outside with gloves, though.
>>12251534Most consoles have modification options for modern outputs if you know how to use a soldering iron and aren't retarded.Better yet, just emulate if you want to play on a modern display.
im just sayin...ive never seen a picture of a saturn with bugs in it.
>>12251542Sure that's all true but now you have to modify the console IE permanently alter it's "original" status. Emulation is fine but why so antagonistic to clone consoles and FPGA? SOC hardware clones are the perfect solution. It's great.
>>12251548that's because nobody owns one
>>12251550Because FPGAs aren't a perfect solution yet.The Analogue 3D doesn't even run as well as an original N64.
>>12251554FPGA maybe but really it's inferior to SOC and more expensive. There are plenty of clone consoles on the market that cost a fraction of a fancy FPGA machine and they've been around forever, think FC Twin. They all have great compatibility and it's hardware replication AFAIK.
>>12251561Most SOC clones are even worse. Just take a gander at the AtGames Sega Genesis systems or any chink Famicom clone. They're all awful.
>>12251506>I'm pretty grossed out by it.You pussy.
>>12251518>Clone consoles and reproduction hardware is not le original they saidYes. This is true.>>12251534Yet they keep failing to produce actual accurate repro hardware.
>>12251548I have one that was encrusted with dead roaches that my local game store was going to throw out.
>>12251572Nonsense, everyone who has used them says you cannot tell the difference. Why do people believe that these old systems from 30 years ago cannot be reproduced? We have cycle accurate emulators from people who did it for free even.
>>12251506Contact the seller and demand a new set of live bugs
>>12251589>do people believe that these old systems from 30 years ago cannot be reproduced?Because they can no longer fabricate the original chips.
>>12251608So? Chips get revised and shrunk during a console's life, what matters is that the structure and logic gates are the same, this is principle behind FPGA and clone systems. Original chips aren't imbued with magical powers.
>>12251564Modern chink Famicom clones are perfect. Even the ancient system on a chip ones were pretty good, video output quality aside.
>>12251506If it was me I'd toss it. A shame but I'd still do it.
>>12251617None of them have good audio output.
Take it apart and wash the whole thing, yes, even the electronics (to be safe, without plugging it in, flip the power switch on for a few seconds then you can flip it back off). Use soapy water and a soft brush to give everything a scrub, then thoroughly rinse. Just make sure everything, particularly the PCB, is fully dried before turning it back on (you can put the PCB in a plastic tub, tilt it against one of the sides so water can run down, and let a fan blow on it, swapping the orientation of the board on occasion, leaving it like this overnight or longer, to make sure there isn't any stray water trapped under a component)
>>12251619You have no idea what you're talking about.
>>12251506I'd throw it away, its not rare. I live like an absolute slob and I don't have bugs or cockroaches so these people must be filthy. I have also taken crt tv's out of bins and they have been fine.
>>12251635That’s not a soac retard.
>>12251614>Original chips aren't imbued with magical powers.Neither are FPGAs, despite what the youtube told you.
>>12251635This is what a chink Famicom clone looks like. See that epoxy blob? That's the entire system.
>>12251690This is what's so amazing about it all, because the NES is like over 40 years old with a sub 2 MHz processor, you can fit it in a pen nowadays but muh original hardware.
>>12251694Yeah, it's amazing, except it outputs audio and video completely wrong
>>12251703I really doubt it's "completely wrong". Maybe it is, but there are different ones out on the market for each old console.
>>12251506nigga just clean it, the roaches are attracted to heat so they probably were only there when the unit was being used, which was probably 25 years ago so all the eggs and shit are long dead
>>12251726Big deal, it's a garage console. I had a garage PS2, same issue. Who cares? It's a garage console. Even if I clean it bugs will get in it again. I just stopped caring. It's not like the bugs are biting me.
>>12251747Why do you keep your consoles in your garage? There are worse issues than bugs in a garage, such has heat and humidity.
>>12251506>he took out the bugsgreat idea retardnow its probably bricked
>>12251764How do I play games in my garage then?
>>12251797Me? I run a long bundle of video and controller cables connected to a machine inside out of a window.
>>12251797Garages aren't for playing video games, they're for working on your car and storing your lawn and gardening equipment
This is why you should ALWAYS bring a gecko (or perhaps certain kinds of lizards, but I've only ever done this with geckos) with you when you buy an old console second-hand.
>>12252239>he uses a gecko for insurance
OP this is the legendary N64 used by Lucasarts to make Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine! Don't clean it you're getting trolled, these posters just want a repeat of the guy who 'cleaned' Miyamoto's signature!
>>12251747This, had the same issue with paper wasps inside my shed Xbox had to disconnect it and spray the inside with raid then rinse it out. If you know anything about paper wasps they tend to be pretty docile if you leave them alone, sometimes they would start buzzing around if I yanked the cable but I had to do it, they were starting to build a nest.
>>12251506your fault for not getting a sega systemâ„¢
>>12252480This game is like $170
>>12253059Not on the emulator it's being played on
