Is it just me or is this game literally unplayable? I don't know what the fuck they did to the controls, Wave Race 64 controlled perfectly why did they change it? It feels so stiff an unresponsive, I genuinely feel like I have no control over the game most of the time.
I thought it controlled pretty well.I've jet-skiied hundreds of hours irl and as you go there are moments where you're skipping over the water like a sine wave then your boat sinks down and you gain "grip" so your throttle and steering have more impact when the boat's weight is pushing down so suddenly your steering might "catch" and send you that direction. The game replicates that. Maybe that's what you're dealing with?
>>12253702Itd nice
>>12253679Just (You). """They""" changed the controlls when (You) emulated with (You)r PC controller.
>>12254447I played it on a gamecube dipshit
>>12254447Embarrassing.
>>12253679It's an American made game, always seemed less popular than the 64 game and included in lists just because it's a sequel and it's exclusive.
>>12253679>Wave Race 64 controlled perfectly why did they change it?Because it was made by a completely different studio, who simply weren't very talented. All of NST's games from around that time were bad. Ridge Racer 64 and 1080 Avalanche were similar embarrassments compared to their predecessors. That's why they were eventually demoted to DS duty and then even further into irrelevance as a support studio. They did make F-Zero 99 though, so at least there's something to show for 25 years of otherwise completely unmemorable existence.
>>12255247I wouldn't say they're not talented, at least early on. Once they became the Mario vs Donkey Kong printer it was kind of over. I think 1080 Avalanche is really fun, much like Wave Race Blue Storm it plays almost completely differently from the original game, but at least it actually controls well and is fun to play. They also knew how to pump some great visuals too, Blue Storm might be the best looking game on the entire console AND it was a launch title. Avalanche looks pretty great as well. I think if they got more opportunities to make "bigger" games like Blue Storm and Avalanche we could've seen even better stuff from them, it's just a shame Blue Storm has crap controls and Avalanche is a pretty by the numbers albeit still fun standard snowboarding game making them not all that memorable in the end. Idk they clearly knew what they were doing, I just don't feel like they had enough time to really get the details down.
1080 and Wave Race on the GameCube are awful compared to the N64 OGs. Seeing F-Zero GX, it’s clear Sega should have developed both.
