Between Sega Saturn and PlayStation, which is better? Also retro DBZ thread.
Saturn of course. Playstation had shit dpad and Nintendo's sucked too but nobody knows how bad they were because they have never experienced a Saturn's.
Saturn.PS1 version lacks a couple of details like trees for instance.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Jju0bnj__c
>>12254380Thanks! The ground textures also look much better on Saturn
i sort of spoiled the entire series for myself playing OP's pic when i was a kid.and then i got into Budokai 2 & 3 and spoiled myself some more
Enter the only actually good DBZ game in existence
>>12255173i was massively disappointed to find it only ended at cell
>>12255162This but I had no idea what was going on since I don't understand Japanese. I did hear about the Buu saga from magazines but looking at this game I though the different buu forms were brothers for some reason.
>>12255192Yeah, if only Budokai 2 decided to stay exactly the same and just add the Buu saga. I get that's not enough content for an entire standalone game but they should've found a way to make it work instead of doing the shitty board game thing. Literally all I want from a DBZ game is the gameplay of Budokai and in engine cutscenes that recreate moments from the anime and literally only Budokai 1 does right. I don't want lazy text only cutscenes with talking PNGs, I don't want whatever the fuck the new games are doing with the gameplay, they're all shit.
>>12255173I'm not a big fan of 6th gen DBZ games. They aren't terribly bad but I prefer the 16bit fighters by far
Playstation is better.Saturn has very weird angles and sprites during Meteo Attacks and that fucking horrible dithering everywhere.About the game lacking trees/buildings, that's not entirely true. What happens is that in the PSX version, those are hidden very, very far away from the starting point of most arenas, so you're never going to see them. While in the Saturn version, they're right there and even appear during attacks. To see the buildings in the PSX version, start a fight and backdash for 15~30 seconds, and you'll start to see it. A very stupid decision by whoever made the game.Lastly, there are actually a few different attacks between versions. Basing it on the PSX version:- Trunks uses a sword slash in the Saturn- Vegetto's attack is different- Dabura uses his sword in the Saturn- Piccolo uses Hellzone Grenade instead of Gekiretsukoudan in the Saturn
Just look at the Meteo Attacks for both versions:PS1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snlsQPBsLuYSS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4nKF3O18ksThe attacks on the Sega Saturn are rather simple and lack weight. Also, most enemies will not fall to the ground when hit, staying suspended in mid-air. Because the Saturn couldn't do proper transparencies, some attacks and explosions look pretty weird. One advantage of the Saturn version is that the gameplay is faster.
>>12255264Infinite World did that to a certain extend but yeah, it was lacking compared to Budokai 1. Budokai 3 had the best script though, very faithful to the japanese manga.
