just started this game and cleared a couple dungeons. any cryptic bullshit or general advice I should know? using the map that came in the box to figure out where to go
The first zelda is pure garbage who was designed with the idea of being so cryptic that you would be forced to give your shekels to the oriental jews in charge of printing game guides
>>12254791yeah thats what Ive heard which is why I wanted to ask but without just looking up a guide and spoiling everything
>>12254784Save up 250 to get the Blue Ring as soon as possible. Also, buy a shield & blue candle as soon as possible. Arrows should be bought after that.
>>12254798You cant beat the game without a guide, anyone saying you can do it either is a liar, or a omega autist on the same level of that dude who has more than ten thousand hours in bubsy 3D
>>12254784Write down what the old man says. What's written on the back of the map is more important than the front.
>>12254817yeah Ive been doing that. keeping an eye out for this eastmost "penninsula".>>12254802havent found a blue ring yet but Ill keep this in mind. should I get the ring or blow it on the candle and shield first though?
>>12254820Blue Ring is more valuable if you know where it is purchased. If you don't, buy the shield.
>>12254784Look up a translation for the Japanese manual. It'll give you a ton of information you need.
>>12254784When you're given a choice between a heart and a red potion, always choose the heart. The offered hearts increase your maximum HP and are actually missable items in Zelda 1, and achieving maximum health upgrades is tied to being given the sword upgrades as well.
>uhhhhh>*eats a heart container*>legend of zelda>*upgrades sword*>doesn't have>*puts on a red shirt*>leveling up>*timeskips into adult link*
>>12254798You don't need a guide. That's a bullshit idea spouted by low IQ people. The game gives you enough hints and clues to let you discover what to do if you actually pay attention properly. It's actually a very well designed game with thoughtful puzzles.
>>12254784Unfortunately this game has a very bad english translation but here is some general advice-If there are blocks you can push, it is always going to be one of the blocks in the middle left. I played a zelda 1 hack blind and pushable blocks were still always on the left side.- Bomb everything. Sometimes the dungeon map itself can be a hint of where to go, even if you don't have the map it still fills in where you step through. You just went through 8 rooms of nothing with a dead end? One of those rooms probably has at least one wall to bomb.-Additionally, almost every screen in the overworld has a secret. Bomb or candle to open them.-2nd quest introduces new mechanics, such as using the flute to make more secret doors appear in the overworld, and walking through fake walls. Neither of these are used in 1st quest except for the flute to open level 7.Cut out a lot of other information but this should be enough.
>>12254784Get candle. Burn EVERYTHING
>>12254784If you get enough of the things and go to the right spot near those tough fuckers you'll be able to kick their ass faster. As in correct not to the right, it would actually be left of that.
>>12254791>Bomb shit>Set shit on fireYes, it's tedious but this is how you explore and shit. Pay VERY close attention to the clues, all of them, that you get from the NPC's and do not forget them. Try to resolve each one, all of them have to be. There are only so many actions and things you can do in this game, you just have to get the hang of it and keep searching. Be observant too.
>>12254784I gave the game 2 hours. After level 1 dungeon I didn't find any progress so I stopped wandering and quit the game. I guess having the manual really would have made the experience better?
>found my first secret on the world map>its just ten rupeest-thanks...
>>12255431hey it could be worse, there's guys who take your money. not that many thankfully, at least not in the first quest.
>>12255431>Anon makes his first buckKeep doin' it
>>12254791zelda 1 and 2 aren't cryptic at all
>>12255407Did you try looking for the second dungeon? The manual does tell you how to find it, along with a bunch of other important information. For early games you kind of have to do this because they had no space to put that in the game itself.
>>12254784The manual comes with a bunch of handy hints and stuff, like this partial map.
>>12254784>using the map that came in the box to figure out where to gothat's some pozzed NoA bullshitmake your own map with pen and paper pussy
>>12256129Better quality image, directly from Nintendo's own PDF guide.https://www.nintendo.co.jp/clv/manuals/en/pdf/CLV-P-NAANE.pdfNintendo provides these for Virtual Console and NSO.
>>12256148>>12256129ez mode for scrubs and noobsgame is meant to be played like zork
>>12256154the game is meant to be played with the manual, that's why it's included in the box
>>12256158"The original "The Legend of Zelda" for the Famicom (the Japanese Nintendo Entertainment System) did NOT have a physical map included in the box.The iconic gold-foil map and instruction manual were unique to the North American NES release (and later PAL releases). Here’s the breakdown:Famicom (Japan) Release (Feb 1986):· Packaging: Came in a vibrant, colorful cardboard box.· Contents: The game cartridge (which was gold in later print runs) and an instruction manual. No physical map.· Why? The Famicom Disk System version, released later in 1986, offered save functionality via the disk, but the initial cartridge release used a battery save. Nintendo of America decided to enhance the packaging for the Western audience.NES (North America) Release (Aug 1987):· Packaging: Came in a sleek gray box.· Contents: The famous gold cartridge, a detailed instruction manual, and the gold-foil overworld map. This map became a legendary part of the experience for Western players.· Reasoning: Nintendo of America wanted to create a premium, "treasure-like" experience to justify the higher price point of an NES game and to help players navigate the unprecedented open world. The map was both a practical aid and a brilliant marketing collectible. ">fell for (((NoA))) marketing schemes>not playing it famicom style like the devs intendedlol get fucked
>>12256164>chat gpt retardationthere is a partial map in the original fds manual for zelda 1, its' smaller than the one in the NES manual but they do tell you exactly how to get to the first two dungeons. It also has descriptions of what all the items do, just like the nes manualhttps://archive.org/details/booklet_loz_jp/page/42/mode/2up
>>12256170lol are you kidding mecompare it to the ez mode ones you posted>>12256148>>12256129if you use the NoA map u didnt beat the game. might as well be using a gamefaqs map at that point
>>12254798If you can guess which tree on this screen is most likely to have a secret hidden beneath, you are a genius beyond the comprehension of all the dipshits claiming you need a guide to beat this game.
>>12256170>its' smaller than the one in the NES manualThat's actually the same size as the one in the NES manual. This map: >>12256148Is NOT from the manual, it's from the "read this if you get stuck and need extra help" bonus material that came with the American version (and that you'd never see if you'd rented the game)
>>12256129>>12256148Shit this came with the box? Don't give him the Nintendo Power one. When I played I just used the manual I got as a PDF online.
>>12254784>LoZIt is the best Zelda. There is some semi cryptic stuff but that's only if you want to speed run the game. If you are just playing casually, there's nothing really cryptic to worry about. There might be the odd thing that gets you a little bit stuck but you'll be able to figure it out.
>>12254791Lies.
>>12256129>>12256148The actual useful information is on the back of this.
>>12255547>Did you try looking for the second dungeon? The manual does tell you how to find itLooking at the manual now>>12256148I can see I had visited the screen right next to level 2 two times without stumbling upon it.
>>12256148thanks anon, I was using the shitty imagine quality version of this. by any chance is the back of this map in those pdf files too? some other anon is saying its very helpful. and to everyone say you didnt beat the game I really dont care. Im having fun and if kids in the 80s got this with the game Id say thats pretty authentic.
>>12256192uhh is it the one blocking the two paths from connecting? also what the fuck is up with the candle? i can only use it once every 5 minutes or some shit?
why do I get the feeling that all of the fags in here saying looking at map invalidates the run havent even beat the game in any fashion before. I was alive back in the nintendo power days.. absolutely NO ONE thought using maps or reading about secrets ruined the fun. we loved that shit.
>>12256574Only once per screen, you need to leave the screen and come back to use it again lol.Once you get the upgraded candle, the red one? You can use it infinitely. Light everything on fire and bomb everything, starting with the most suspicious things first.
Map and saves are detrimental to le experience. According to /vr/ contrarians, what Metroid lacks is actually the reason it has aged so well. If true I must assume both map and saves ruined and diluted the true Zelda experience.
>>12256205>You should only use the map and strategic tips as a last resort. If you believe in yourself and your inner strength, you will conquer Gannon and return peace to the land of Hyruleeven NOA is calling you a bitch, lmao
>>12256592Nooo please don't use the manual to complete our rental game in a daySincerely looking for your best interestsNintendo of Murica
dungeon 3 was a nice bump in difficulty, barely made it through. the armored knights are real cunts. and the boss was actually giving me trouble until I realized to use bombs and then it died in one hit, lmao. anyway Ive got a raft now so I think some nice comfy exploration and rupee farming is due before level 4.
>>12256620>dungeon 3 was a nice bump in difficulty>the armored knights are real cuntsKek. If you think those are bad, wait until dungeon 4 or 5 then, that and the wizzrobe rapefest that comes after it are the hardest parts of the game.
>looking through the rest of the manual for fun nowholy fucking SOVL
>>12256623oh yeah Im farming for my blue ring before I even attempt
>>12256620>he uses the correct aspect ratio when playing NES gamesbased.
>>12256628Don't use anything else, just the manual. No map or strategy book bullshit. Write down the hints that NPC's give you.
>>12256641yeah Im not look up any other shit>east most penninsula is the secret>meet the old man in the graveyard>find the sword from the man on top of the waterfall>pay me and Ill talk (fuck you bitch Im trying to buy a ring)
also just curious but does anyone know what number underneath your name on the title screen means?
>>12256651>pay me and Ill talkBitch took my 10 rupees and deadass said it's not enough
>>12256654I think it's how many times you died but not sure.
>>12254784>just started this game and cleared a couple dungeons. any cryptic bullshit or general advice I should know? using the map that came in the box to figure out where to goNope, you're doing it right. Have funI'll give you a tip like we're kids on the schoolyard:There's a grave in the graveyard you can push to get a fancy sword, but it requires you to have a high number of heart containers for the old man to hand it over
>>12256695Now that I remember, this is the only thing I ended up looking up during my play through because I thought it was a glitch or something was all fucked up. This is a legit flaw with the game.
>>12256695cool, between that and the waterfall I know where the sword upgrades are now. the NPCs already hinted as much to me. grinding to 250 rupees for this ring is taking a lot fucking longer than Id like. almost there
>>12256719Nice, found the blue ring. Once you get the hang of the game it's not so bad.
fuck you miyamoto
thank god for the money making game, I got lucky twice in a row. tomorrow we raid level 4. also I found the entrance to level 8 so thats neat.
>>12256578>I was alive back in the nintendo power days..in japan?
The name's Link, and I'm braver than brave.I got a wooden sword from an old man in a caveand when my hearts are maxed out, it shoots an energy blade?I don't know how exactly that works, but that's okay with me.Eventually I'll find my way out of this mazeNorth West South West I'm on my way to the graves. When I master the Master Sword, I'm goin' to townon Zelda's upside-down Triforce, with one in the brown. You can't stop me from coming, I am the Hero of TimeYa better run for your fuckin' life, I'm "cummin' inside" (Haha)
>>12254784The tile to which the caves are located, IE; bombable burnable areas, are all the same tiles between screens. So you don't have to burn every bush. Just the bushes in the locations to which stairs are commonly found.
>>12254791if you can't make it through map 1 without any help, you failed at life
