An entire generation of the gaming industry invested all its efforts and energies in developing the ultimate Quake Killer, and there was never a Quake Killer.
>>12254872Quake 2
>becomes irrelevant after HL/CS
>>12254875Sorry, nothing made with the Quake engine gets to qualify. You're Quake's bitch.
>>12254876Seems like someone else making a much better game with the same tools would make the Quake devs the bitches. A group of other men had their way with their engine and used it better than they ever could. The gamedev equivalent of getting cucked.
>>12254874>dude what Quake needs is nonlinear progress through labyrinthine, hub-based maps, so that a new player who doesn't know where to go will have lots of downtime with no combat. A shooting game that hides the shooting parts from you – people loved that in Hexen!Fuck the original Quake 2. The single player was weeping syphilis until Nightdive fixed it with an objective marker. I couldn't stand this game until the remaster, which made it fairly enjoyable. I still don't think the soundtrack is a good fit for the game.
Half Life was the Quake killer. Halo was the Half Life killer. COD was the Halo killer.
>>12254876>muh enginePCfag logic. I guess the whole industry is a bitch of Unreal now, because of UE?
>>12254891This is all true except half life didnt matter
>>12254872Quake alright. Why would you wanna kill it?
>>12254886> until Nightdive fixed it with an objective marker.
>>12254872Half-Life. Team Fortress Classic, TF2, CS, CSS
>>12254872We're still playing it, to this day. The source engine is derived, be it distantly from Quake. I think Quake is the basis of most FPS games, COD games use an engine based on Id Tech 3, IE a Quake engine.
