Anybody here remember Gorky 17 (Odium in North America)? It was a Polish made, horror, tactical game from 1999. It follows a group of NATO operatives, infiltrating a Polish town overrun with monsters and mutants. It switches from point and click exploration and item management to turn based combat when encountering enemies. People describe it as a marriage between Resident Evil (during exploration, puzzles and inventory management) and XCOM (during combat encounters). It has a leveling and RPG system. It looks like a PS1 game, using 3D characters and objects, superimposed over detailed 2D enviroments and backgrounds (a la early RE games). The music, enviroments, characters and monster designes vary from solid to excellent.

>>12255069I remember cause it got reviewed over here plus we got the demo in a cover CD of a gaming mag.Never played it myself but it looked pretty cool. It got a re-release on GOG recently.
Been watching a let's play by some dudeStrange game
>>12255069Goblin made a version of this.
>>12255069Yes, it's quite good. Too bad there's no proper sequel.
>>12255069I saw it in a computer magazine back then. It looked like shit.
Was pretty popular in Russia, even recieved two dubs: first changed NATO operatives into ex-USSR team and generally changed story around it, second dub was more loyal to original, but was called Gorky 18 to fool poor goyms into thinking it was sequel.
quirky gorky
>>12255263>>12255393i watched ROG PR's recent video too
>>12255069i loved it but it was buggy and i can't get it to run on newer OS. even back in Win98 and WinXP, the game could only run in software mode for me, because supposedly only a small selection of GPUs could run it without glitches.
>>12257010The gog release seems to work without issues, at least on windows 10
More like Corky 17
>>12255119>It got a re-release on GOG recently.I bought it from GOG in 2013.
Okay so I just pirated it. Game seems cool enough but I'm almost out of healing items.Am I supposed to spend the whole game on the brink of death?
>>12257481in the early game you will often be short of ammo and healing stuff if you're too wasteful. it gets better later but dont expect an easy peasy game.
>>12257491The battles aren't difficult, but I use a lot of melee so I'm bound to get hit a lot.I think I'll uninstall, it's not fun despite being interesting.
>>12257528Just use tasers amd tranqualizer darts, then beat the shit out of them while they're stunned.
>>12258434*sigh*Do you get those far into the game?
>>12258598You get your first taser in the beginning section of the game (the dock area). It trivializes the first boss in the courtyard (the one where you need a handprint to open).
>>12258794I believe you get the tranq dart gun as well because I remember stun locking the boss by tasing him and hitting him with darts while the taser recharges. He died and didn't even move a muscle (just don't stand in front of him to avoid his projectile attack). You can absolutely dominate battles with interchanging tasers and darts, assuming the enemy types aren't immune to tranqualizers.
