the music is really, really good. but besides that theres really nothing about this game that is better than x4 or 8. the boss fights, level design and power ups in those games are all way more fun. Im gonna play megaman x next and I get the feeling its gonna be the same story with that one. face the truth and admit it, MM peaked on ps1.
MM8 doesn't feel good to play because of 3 main factors, which both boil down to the developers going too far because they could and never stopped to wonder if they should. The first reason is animations, they have way too many frames and are way too long which result in a poor gameplay feel because of the delay between a button press and the moment the key frames of that action finally occur. The jumping is the most egrogious with Mega Man flailing his arms up like a down syndromed kid attemping to mimic the basket ball players he saw on TV.The second reason are the upgrade system, which end up making the player feel too weak at base level, and too strong at upgraded level. The worse in that aspect in the slide, the basic slide is the slowest most sluggish slide in the series, but with the upgrade it's way too fast which end up making the game feel like "some dude's first ROMhack as the guy found the byte for X velocity and just decided to cramp it up to 11".The third reason are the enemies. The game design philosophy is "let's throw dozens of shitty braindead enemies at the player all at once", which end up making the game very messy. Again, like with animations, they did it because they could. These two things are prime examples of why technical limitations breed quality and creativity, the NES MM games do not have these problems simply because they could NOT have these problems, just like how the level design in the NES games is a lot more dynamic with a lot less boring straight lines compared to the 4th and 5th gen games simply because they were forced to create levels with a lot of height variety to avoid sprite flicker. As opposed to X4 which is full of boring straight lines, again, because they could. You thought I was going to talk about jumpu slidu and the SHMUP level didn't you? Well, no, I like those. The one with shitty sidescrollers is X4.
>>12256964>The one with shitty sidescrollers is X4.Oops, I meant autoscrollers. I had to fuck up my post at the end.
>>12256960>the music is really, really good. butthis is really the opening description of many capcom games reallythat and the graphics too of you willbut the actual game doesn't match with it
>>12256964ok fair enough but you have to at least admit the boss fights in x4 are awesome. just the right level of challenge. mega man 2 bosses are a joke. 8 bosses are too easy but still much better than 2, and have fucking awesome designs. not to mention x4 and 8 dont have an insanely broken weapon you get from an easy stage that trivializes the entire game.
>>12256986I liked Slash Beast, Magma Dragoon and Split Mushroom. Jet Stingray is okay too. Some of these are upgraded versions of previous MM bosses though, like Jet Stringray is a lot like Dive Man where it's all about not getting overwhelmed by his shots, and obviously Split Mushroom is Gemini with a slightly more complicated pattern. The others are kinda boring to fight
>>12256960 Nice bait
>>12256964>delay between a button press and the moment the key framesFalse.>too weak at base level, and too strong at upgraded levelIt's not a difficult game. This is not an issue.>"let's throw dozens of shitty braindead enemies at the player all at once", which end up making the game very messyWhat even is this complaint? It's just more things to shoot at.>X4 which is full of boring straight linesThe X series are action games first, with less emphasis on platforming than MMClassic games.
>>12257080>False.Your webm literally shows what I'm talking about, you just lack reading comprehesion. It takes a quarter of a second for MM in the NES game to reach his key frame, and it takes an ENTIRE second MM8 because of that shitty looking animation. Animations affect visual response.
>>12257126He's already jumping, and both of them jump the same number of times. The animation's frames are completely separate from the actual jumping register, you imbecile. You can't git gud at the easiest MMClassic game so you resort to complaining about non-issues.
>>12257134Why is it so hard for you to comprehend that animations affect how the gameplay feels? That is basic game design. When MM11 was being made initially the animations were shitty similarly to MM8's, people complained about it and the devs changed it.What you're talking about is seperate but with that said, what you're saying isn't even true. You had to wait at the end of the first jump so that both 8 and classic can match, because 8's jump is more floaty and takes a longer. Even when you spam the button at the end 8's jumps are more floaty and longer. Like I said though that wasn't what I was talking about, you brought this up.
