That was only for the European arcade version. In that era, games there were not allowed to depict realistic soldiers dying, ninjutsu of any kind, or more than one ghost at a time. Pac-Man was a snorefest.

The original English title within the game itself was unironically GHOST'N GOBLINS, as seen in this arcade proto. Probably just an Engrish thing, but I guess early promo art production was already in the pipeline before it was caught, so they just printed some of the stuff as-is
