I'm gonna get called stupid or whatever for this, but I've been seeing a lot of people shit on the remake lately. These people are mostly obvious posers trying to sound like they have superior taste, and its really annoying as someone who actually doesn't like the remake and hasn't liked it since I first played it back around 2004.
This isn't attempting to 'convert' people or enlighten people to the 'greatness' of the original, I just wanted to make a post about this.

I find the remake to be ugly. I think it is an aesthetic abomination that completely misreads everything the franchise was ever really about. I think its gameplay is loaded with missteps as a general survival horror game, as a remake of the original Resident Evil from 1996, and as a followup to over five years of Resident Evil titles.
Not a single addition it makes is wortwhile or interesting, narratively or to the gameplay.
Crimson heads are a waste. Once you know they're there, it's just busywork and nothing else.
Encouraging the player to run past enemies is antithetical to survival horror as you are no longer using your resources once you learn that.
The knife is just shit. RE2 had this issue as well, but the knife shouldn't be complete garbage, and CV was close to having the best knife balance with absurd damage but also absurd knockback against walls. In a tight game like RE1, that would have a lot of balance to it, but instead all you get is a shitty, ineffectual knife.
The level design is just bad. Lots and lots of linear paths with the few moments of openness being just taken directly from the original.
The Lisa Trevor story is silly even by RE standards, and her boss fight in that crypt is fucking dumb. I laughed the first time I saw her leap down into the bottomless pit (that every employee apparently had to walk through to get to the lab).

There's so much more, but I don't like it. I'm the only true anti-remakefag, everyone else is an obvious poser.

I agree with you generally; much prefer the original.

>no you don't get it, *I'M* the only true REmake hater
Yeah yeah we've heard it all before. Muh misread atmosphere, muh bad additions, muh cut branches. Get new material.

I'm the only true hater because I'm the only one who has actually played the original.
Everytime I see remake hate posts, they're always canned criticisms that seem to come from image macros and other posts, which is why there's so much shit about candles and cut routes, even though I would say the path to save Barry in the original was bad.

You never started thoughbeit

I was surprised how easy RE1 on PlayStation felt compared to RE2. The RE Remake at least fixes that problem, although RE2 is still better overall.

The original western version difficulty (PSX longbox, Saturn, or PC on a second playthrough) is definitely harder than 2

>I'm the only person in the world that has played 1996's Resident Evil
