That reminds me of something related in Megaman 7.
On the final boss, people usually dread being hit by the red shot because it keeps hurting you, but you can actually hit the controller buttons quickly to shake the fire off. If you do that quickly enough, you only take 1 tic of damage, which is less than the other two shots (yellow and blue).

So next time, if you can't dodge all the balls, just jump into the red one and mash buttons to break free.

Even if you have a turbo controller mashing a button every 2 frames you will still take about the same damage you'd take from the other shots.
And if you don't have turbo, then fuck your arm. It feels extra shitty having to mash your controller a dozen of times in such a short interval.

The last time I played MegaMan 7 Wily only had 1 hit left, I had enough health to tank one hit if I couldn't dodge, and of course I got hit by the fucking red shot and died.

Other useless tips for Megaman X

The ostrich is vulnerable to chameleon sting
The big missile launcher guys and the turtle are susceptible to tornado cannon
The Flame work well against the crusher robot
The robot that defend the armor part, you can shoot in his armhole when he shoot his hook arm
You can beat the kuwanger boss by staying in a up corner and spamming rolling shield, not much he can do
