This game has no atmosphere.

op has sex with men

False. It appears that the strogg planet has a thin atmosphere
>>
For me, it's The Reckoning and the N64 version.
>>
>>12258808
those have no atmosphere i agree

Incorrect, play it without the soundtrack and it turns into uneasy horrorkino

Using the Hodges/N64 soundtrack works well, too.

The bullet lighting counts as atmosphere.

it's stanky but being the middle sibling between q1 and q3 is an unenviable fate. It and dark souls 2 should pair bond. Though they should be neutered first, we have enough failures in gaming already.

Marathon 2 and ∞ ambience mogs this

I played the N64 version first (just like Quake) and I loved it.
I then bought it on GOG and also tried to replay it with RTX: ON but it just didn’t have the same magic as the N64 version. Not sure if it’s because I was young or what. I’m replaying the N64 version on my Analogue 3D and the magic is there!

I wonder who is the fag behind OP, it must be a pisscord tranny from slipseer, uses a sheep as a avatar and cut his genitals to be refered as "female"
And is anal that map center Q2 maps ended up better than whatever the garbage jams they made for Q1
>>
>>12259637
map center's Q1 retro jams 2-4 were legit more fun and inventive than anything else that came out of Q1's mapping scene in 25 years

The levels in the N64 version have a different philosophy, they're more compact and arcade like, whereas the original is more story oriented. IIRC each level in the N64 version is independant too while in the OG they're hubs.
The level design philosophy of the N64 levels is more akin to Doom or Build Engine games than to the OG Q2, and I too quite like that.
>>
>>12259639
yeah, and all are from people who hates slipseer, spirit and the q1 circlejerk.
which pisses them off even more

>>12259647
I wish Q2R had set Q2N64 as its own stuff so it would be easier to load custom textures to it.
i wouldn't mind loading the stuff i did again on photoshop and gimp to make n64 versions of it and more unique, in fact the maiden's face here looks more human than the original texture to a point you can notice a nose and "lips"
>>
>>12258774
Did Trent really say that?
>>
>>12259650
imagine being so obsessed with quake but only making maps for arcane dimensions, alkaline and copper
>>
>>12259946
AD is great, but its consequences brought too many retards into the fold.
>>
>>12259958
AD might as well have been a wave defense mod
>>
>>12258896
It's decent but I think Quake 4 did what it was trying to do with its atmosphere better by doubling down on the gross body horror and bio-tech aspect of the Strogg. I think Quake 2 could have been grosser and more off putting is what I'm saying. Maybe it was a technical limitation thing as I don't think that version of ID tech would be capable of doing a lot of the shit 4 does but they could have improvised I think as some Quake 2 mods actually do successfully put in some gross ass shit in them.
>>
>>12259991
Ideally if another Quake focused on the Strogg came out I think it would be best to emphasize the shock and body horror aspect to differentiate them from the "Generic cyborg alien enemy" that people I think unfairly malign them as and stand out as compared to Quake 1's enemies. The design of the Strogg in Quake wars is kind of step back in this regard when really they should be showing Outlast tier sick fuckery in those human harvesting facilities like 4 did.

Course we are in an era where every game company pre censors their shit for Chinese and European audiences so I doubt they would be that ballsy.

>>12258774
Are any of the quake games worse playing? Played doom 1 and started doom 2 but wasn’t liking it
>>
>>12260070
I like Quake 1 for its dungeon like level design. Traps, interesting obstacles and progression mechanics.
>>
>>12260092
Yeah I love Quake 1's traps. Some of them are super mean and I think that's great. Makes it feel like the world of the game hates you and the Dungeon type level design and atmosphere adds to it.
>>
>>12260070
Doom 2 is like reverse Doom 1. It starts out really bad but gets fun after the first 10 or so levels.

Q1, Q2, Q4 are all worh playing. Q3 is multiplayer only but there are bots.
>>
i have a n64 and this thread is making me wanna buy quake
>>
>>12260345
Buy all the id games for N64. They are all good and fun. On other good PC port for the N64 is StarCraft 64. I still love playing it
>>
>>12259647
what the hell? i never knew the N64 version looked like this, it's dope as hell.
>>
>>12258774
Not true at all. The mind broken prisoners saying "kill me" was disturbing and spooky. Definitely see where Quake 4 got the inspiration.
>>

>>12261465
You can play the N64 version of Quake II in the enhanced remaster now
>>
>>12261916
There's also a pretty good mod for it that lets you play the PSX version too and it's pretty fun. I just played it for the first time recently.

Don’t forget the brutalist jams. They were so nice. A third compilation is coming.
