the *amount* of added time in remake managing inventory is nuts, because there are double the amount of puzzle items while the inventory slots for chris and jill are the same as the original. you are constantly running back and forth.

there are many more cases in remake where you have to squeeze through an area and killing is unavoidable. and i’m not talking about kerosene for burning zombies, i get that’s optional. the main issue with inventory is the extra puzzle items, not the means of dispatching zombies. in the original game you have a lot more leeway and ability to move forward in progress without constantly needing to go back and forth. there’s really no reason at all other than artificially elongating the experience for there to be as many extra puzzle items when the outcomes are the same. it’s shit design.

re 1-3 don’t have that problem, they keep it moving much better. remake taxes you and wrecks the flow of the game. don’t try to fucking tell me i should be cool with this because that’s how re games just are, because yeah they all have the item management but not to the retarded degree that remake does that adds way too much time and sucks the fun out.

True. Sometimes in the remake I go around with just a weapon and no ammo for it just so I can save one inventory slot. In the original the only section that's like that is the underground when playing as Chris.
To be on the same level as inventory management as the original, the REmake would need 1 or 2 more slots. Of course it's expected of remakes to demand more out of the known mechanics, but basically forcing so much backtracking to the item boxes wasn't necesarilly the fun way to do that. It hurts the pacing in a game which pacing is already hurt by other things.

In REmake, Jilll is dumb as fuck. Barry blatantly tries to kill her twice and she's still surprised when it happens the 3rd time. Like she completely forgot that he intentionally abandoned her in a cave with Lisa and then put a fucking gun to her head the last time they met. In the original he didn't explicitly turn on her until they confront Wesker in the lab which made a lot more sense. They fucked up writing the new script in multiple areas by forgetting that the changes defeat the purpose of having certain scenes later on. It’s honestly a sloppy game.

Minor nitpick, but they also kept the line at the beginning where Barry says he's going to check out the dining room again and Jill says she'll check out the door on the other side. It's a little pointer in RE1 that leads you to the dog hallway, shotgun, and a back way into the save room under the stairs. But in the remake she can't pick the lock in the art room anymore and you actually have to go back through the dining room and the new area beyond it to proceed.

you’re not fooling anyone, character movement in the remake is literally slower than the original. additionally, the models are larger on-screen and make it harder to see where you’re going or maneuver down halls. it’s not counterbalancing anything, it’s adding weight and time to the game. there should be no reason that the original is smoother and snappier and with more responsive control. except that they rushed the remake, didn’t think it through or test it enough and it’s inferior because of bad design choices. it should have been eady to improve on the original but they made it play worse.

major disappointment when it released but then it grew on me for a period of time until i revisited the original and realized how much better it was. if it’s all you have, it’s acceptable maybe a 7/10 re game. the original is still the way to go if you want the better version of this one, though. enough time has passed that the wowy gamecube graphics have worn off and it’s revealed as a game hampered by many small flaws. flaws which are not in the original game.
