Gamecube is allowed and I recently got into this series. What did you think of Pikmin when it originally came out, and are you a big fan of both gameplay styles? the time limit, and the dungeons both.

What did YOU think of Pikmin when it originally came out
>>

it was one of my first games. i thought it was great. the graphics were amazing, the little logs at the end of the day were cool. but as a kid i got filtered and dropped it for other games.

best way to play pikmin 1&2 were on the wii with motion controls. hey pikmin for the 3ds gets shit on a lot but i liked that one too

I RECENTLY got into this series, I think it's really fun NOW.

You didn't beat the game. Sorry kid, I don't make the rules.
>>
>>12259876
Not him but why? Didn't they just fix some bug and nothing much or they changed a lot? I don't know which version to play

It's true at least half the time, but in this case motion controls.. idk man.
>>
>>12259889
It's more fun with motion controls. Probably a little easier but doesnt matter. it's not contra, it's pikmin

Gamecube or wii port are both good options. I'd avoid the switch port since they lost the license to all the products and had to replace treasures with generic objects

>Pikmin
My second game for the Gamecube. I only got it for the Captain Olimar trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee. I was a dumb and anxious kid who couldn't beat it because it generally intimidated me too much. I was always worried I'd task Pikmin with carrying a part to the ship and they'd all get wiped out by some enemy that wandered over. Ultimately it made an impression on me though, and I did eventually man up and just beat it.
>Pikmin 2
Got it and Metroid Prime 2 for my birthday in 2005. I liked it a lot more than 1 at the time, thanks to it having some relief measures where you can freely put in work and make the game easier. I liked that the time limit was removed, but if you aren't a stupid kid, it only takes like 15-20 days to do everything?

I don't think any of the Pikmin games are actually good. I like the first one but I just like the vibes not anything to do with the gameplay. I just think the environments are cool and the concept is interesting, plus early Gamecube games just have this certain thing going on with the visuals that really do it for me. So the second one deciding to really lean into the shallow gameplay and then also gut out all of the interesting environments in favor of dull copy and pasted caves did not sit well with me at all. 2 also got rid of the timer and while it never threatened me in the slightest, I beat the game in 15 days or less on my first go, it at least was in the back of my mind the whole time and provided a small sense of urgency. For some reason Pikmin thinks its a game full of strategy and decision making but it isn't at all, the die hard nintendrones will try to tell you otherwise though. It's pretty mindless, the most the game ever asks of you is to position yourself a certain way before throwing the Pikmin at the enemies and sometimes to choose a specific color, thats it. The games never evolve in the right ways over the franchise it's constantly 1 step forward 2 steps back with each new game and it's frustrating and sad. I think they really could make a stellar Pikmin game if they had the balls to just commit and make bigger changes without sacrificing other shit but they won't do it, so for that reason I just stick with the original game and enjoy it for the weird and charming experiment that is was.

I loved Pikmin 1. The time limit and difficulty made it a very unique and challenging experience. Pikmin 2 was pretty dull and I never got far.

If they went all in on difficulty it could be huge
But nu-pikmin with the dog and no challenge looks cringe af
zero faith in post-iwata nintendo

Not really my kind of puzzle game. I think the only puzzle style of game I remember liking was PQ for the PSP.

The games are radically different from each other the more seriously you take the day timer mechanics. I would call the day timer the game's difficulty selection even if the games do a poor job of illuminating that.
8 days to beat Pikmin 1 is harder than 10 days. Having to do more with less time is the charm for me IMO, that's the immediate impression Pikmin 1 lays down and it's stuck with me since (even if 30 days is pretty lax all things considered).
Pikmin 2 forgoing the timer for the caves is my greatest grievance, and the gameplay where it's under the influence of the timer is too little and too fragmented for comfort.
I actually like 3 and 4 despite their flaws because the timer is always overbearing, and I know that's sacrilege, but I will stand by it.
Pikmin 2 is a fun game to fuck around in but I don't take it seriously when lined up with the other games. On the surface it's Pikmin, but ironically looking deep down is when it becomes shallow.

Not that anon, but IR controls really improve Pikmin. It improved it so much that it was even kept in Pikmin 3 on Wii U as a control mode, and was only removed in Pikmin 4 on Switch for obvious reasons. In general, IR controls improve everything. Mario Galaxy 1+2 should only be played with IR controls as intended, it's ABSOLUTELY NOT the same with gyro. Metroid Prime Trilogy? Same thing, even better than dual joysticks on Switch.

I don't see why anyone would play GameCube games that received New Play Control on Wii. It's honestly a much inferior experience in every way.

It's just fun to optimize your playthrough and complete it in as few days as possible
>>
>>12259875
Why did it take you so damn long?

>waggle

>>12262437
I wrote them off as boring kiddie games, much like Kirby. I recently got into Kirby as well, but not retro.

>>12262464
Well I hope you learned your lesson.

>What did you think of Pikmin when it originally came out
I thought it was extremely gay and childish. The weird humour (?) and the constant exclamations/squeals are horrible.
>are you a big fan of both gameplay styles?
No.
>>
>>12262438
There is no waggle on the Wii versions of Pikmin 1, 2 or Metroid Prime Trilogy (well, at least in 1 and 2, there is waggle in 3). IR pointing controls are not waggle. Imagine thinking that aiming with a slight flick of the wrist and shooting is worse than using two sticks to move coordinates. It is impossible to play with as much precision as on the Wii with any other control type.
