What's the deal with the old Sonic games? The levels are a god damn mess, and you have to go through them so fast that I can barely remember what they looked like. Can't remember which sonic game had the tech level, the jungle level, the casino level with the bouncy things, the one with water...
>>12259997You need to have autism to enjoy Sonic
>>12259997>you have to go through them so fast that I can barely remember what they looked likeThat was unironically the appeal. Nothing else could match it at the time. The speed was unique, which made the slow platforming in the later levels a major buzzkill.
It's an elephant in a room
>>12259997Will someone please explain to me why RetroRoach includes shaders in its screen shots. Nobody wants to see your hideous shader that has been tuned to your own depraved preferences.
>>12260062You can turn that off, but I choose not to. You WILL see my shaders.
Nobody forgets Wacky Workbench, but that's because of how terrible it is.

>keep hearing Chemical Plant is the best classic sonic level>has this faggotry
>>12260208anon, i barely struggled with this when i was five

I think getting rid of the timer would fix a lot of sonics issues. Youre meant to explore levels for shortcuts or ramps to lead you to upper paths(or pits to lower paths) but youre always racing to the end to not time out and its detrimental to how sonic should work, ie speeding around like a pinball. Its especially counterintuitive to Sonic CD where youre supposed to explore levels for signposts or machines instead of just heading to the exit
>>12261480>Its especially counterintuitive to Sonic CD where youre supposed to explore levels for signposts or machines instead of just heading to the exitBecause the 2011 version FUCKED UP by having the timer follow you after time-traveling when it's SUPPOSED to RESET.The only contribution that bootleg-engine version made was allowing you to swap soundtracks on the fly, which was apparently a last-minute addition.
>>12259997>you have to go through them so fastno you dont>Can't remember which sonic game had the tech level, the jungle level, the casino level with the bouncy things, the one with water...your own personal failure then. also, most kids would replay games over and over, and build their memory and skill. "i only played it once and i cant remember specifics" is not only a personal failure for your own memory skills, but a pathetic excuse when you could have also practiced/played more.
>>12261480you have 10 minutes per stage. thats more than enough.
>>12261695But I was busy playing good games (Mario, DKC, Megaman, etc)I know those like the back of my hand and each level in them made an impression that stuck with me.
>>12261702Nice, another troll "Sonic was never good thread" and mentioning only Nintendo titles as good. Console wars are so 90's, you don't have to be faithful to the one console your parents can afford anymore, anon, you can play anything and enjoy it all like a normal person, denying Sonic was memorable because you can't play it just makes you look bad at video games.
>>122617022d mario has time limits too, and they are far less than the 10 minute timer for sonic.
>>12259997>you have to go through them so fastSQUEAKSQUEAKSQUEAK
Sonic games aren't interesting when you're exploring or going slow.Platforming feels off and the level design is very bland.Still not bad but not that great either.>>12262626I liked Sonic more than Mario as a kid, even had a Sonic thematic birthday party more than once.Still think that Mario is much better than Sonic. It's just the truth, anon.
