One of the common debates among the klassic mk games is the setting the games evoke. I actually enjoy the progression because why is being stagnant good, why repeat yourself as a new franchise that hasn't been established enough to be nostalgic or "set"?
>MK
Most reminiscent of kung fu cinema with a dark fantasy edge and tongue in cheek nature. Basically this was entirely informed by Enter the Dragon, Bloodsport, and Big Trouble in Little China, a mysterious martial arts tournament Island led by an otherworldly sorcerer
>MKII
As per the story, this takes us outside of Earthrealm entirely, the settings have much more dark fantasy because we're exploring that side of the world
>MKIII
Now we go in reverse, Outworld invades Earth so there's some more modern cityscape environments, but it's also still split between dark gothic aesthetics and hellscapes

It all works to me, I never really thought it needed to be debated, it's all part of the world MK exists in and makes perfect sense for the narrative being painted

I agree.

Perfectly respectable opinion and I happen to agree as well.

Cyber ninjas were based on predator
>>
I've always respected how each sequel was completely different and made pretty much from scratch when japanese fighting game sequels would normally rehash as much material as possible

III would've been fine if scorpion was base roster and bi-han was a secret character but with a skull head or something.would've definitely quelled 70% of the complaints.
