What's the biggest scam in retro gaming homebrew?
>>
>>12261026
The biggest scam in retro gaming homebrew is paying for retro gaming homebrew in the first place.
Emulate, or just don't bother.

Correct. Consoles are completely pointless to own with only a few exceptions, and the DOSBox/86Box/nGlide/patches combo covers all retro PC games. A MiSTer is a valid purchase if you really must play on a CRT, but other than that software emulation has largely rendered original hardware obsolete. Sorry scalpers, but I'm just not going to pay for your old junk.
>>
>>12261026
buying any of this retarded sbc shit just to emulate some old video games. any old piece of shit computer will do, you dont even need another computer, but you retards need to 'have the experience' of buying some specialty product to put on a shelf so you can post photos of it to instagram
>>
paying for roms
>>
>>12261113
Well every time I buy a flashcart it always comes preloaded with ROMS
>>
I paid $350 (shipping included) for an Analogue 3D.

No regerts
>>
>>12261109
Gotta agree. Most of my emulating is done on a crappy old Wii/3DS that I already owned and pc handles the rest.

What are you playing friend?
I’ve been enjoying Hydro Thunder/Beetle Adventure Racing/Cruisin’ Exotica, and Quake 2

You never owned anything in the first place. You owned only the idea of ownership.
>>
>>12261183
pirated data is actually owned by you, even with physical media you're only buying a license to use the content, piracy is true ownership

Thanks for reminding me I need to try my RR64 cart. I also have Wipeout64 but that low draw distance popup is brutal. I didn’t care when I was a teen tho. Loved it. Had it for the PSX also
>>
>>12261380
Beat me to it. There's no reason to buy this piece of shite when the Xstation is cheaper, kore readily available, and lets you use it any way you want. It's not like you can install it without soldering

It's so weird. I emulate everything before 5th gen but I'm not an elitist faggot about it like the emutards on this board are.
>>
>>12261380
>Oh how neat its connected through the I/O
>No need to solder and you can jack it into any PS1 with a I/O port
>Wait you still need solder on a board to use this thing
Why would I bother with this thing? If you still need to solder stuff. This product is just weird. I wouldn't be surprised if it originally was meant to be solution that didn't require soldering, but half ways into the project they found out that wasn't possible.

Stupid crap like the Analogue 3D, Retron5 etc. What is the point? Feels like all of these products are shilled by YouTube grifters because their channels will otherwise be stagnant.
The OG hardware is as real as it can get, its the real deal I get it.
If its not the OG hardware save yourself a few bucks and just emulate.
>>
>>12261026
In all seriousness per game HDMI settings is a really cool idea but why tf did they put DRM on an offline console mod? Also component is already good enough for most consoles if you need a clear video output.
>>
>>12261516
it must be so emasculating to live surrounded by plastic trinkets and toys from 50 years ago
>>
>>12261604
do these pieces of shit at least allow translation patches, cheat codes, savestates and all the other things that even the most basic emulator provides?
at this point original hardware is inferior, save states in particular are almost essential now, i am not going back to password systems or relying on whatever virgin at square decides where save points go
>>
>>12261756

>>
>>12261764

Poorfagottry is a crippling disease, frequently generational through both nature and nurture. They/them children and literally insane.

No, unless you use a flash cart
>savestates
Eventually

Also has HDMI ouput and CRT effects

Modding is cool.
>>
>>12263726

It can be. Sadly yours is cringe.
>>
>>12261594
>I wouldn't be surprised if it originally was meant to be solution that didn't require soldering, but half ways into the project they found out that wasn't possible.
It was basically advertised as plug and play for the longest time, I don't think it was revealed to have a soldering requirement until it was pretty much released.

Even though the compatibility on it is pretty shit it was still pretty novel as ODEs weren't really a thing at the time. What really makes the PSIO garbage is how utterly petulant the creator is.

>>12261380
>Firmware update still not released
>Updates hidden behind paywall.
>Butt hurt because the Chinese can do it better.
Kek.
>>
>>12261380
>guy makes cool useful product
>decides to protect his IP
>chinks across the Internet howl and seethe
People shouldn't go out of their way to make easily-cloned products that the Chinese will just steal. I remember how people seethed when that USB serial interface company started checking to see if the devices were authentic and many chink USB serial adapters died overnight.

People don't go into business to do all the work behind a product, then manufacture it, only so the Chinese can literally steal their shit and sell it themselves for half price. That's just stupid. And because there's no effective way to get some infringing product to be stopped at the border (unless you're Chanel or Hermes) people will take technical measures to protect their work.

Most of these Chinese products retro fans buy in scads are stolen clones made by some individual person as a hobby and business venture, because they are interested in some system or another. The Chinese don't invent SHIT by themselves, they only steal other people's work. So if you are all angry that you should pay full price for a product, and buy it from them or an officially licensed reseller, you're a Chinese person, or you don't value the long term viability of NEW retro-gaming and computing products.

Nobody would care if the Chinese only "stole" open source projects. That's why they're open source. But they will steal anything.
>>
>>12264254
I aint reading all that

PSIO isn't useful and the only people he's protecting it from are his customers asking where the fuck the updates are

That cheap multi-carts will damage your console. It's FUD from people who want you to spend a lot more money on their product.
>>
>>12261142
fucks wrong with that house?
>>
>>12261604
>What is the point? Feels like all of these products are shilled by YouTube grifters because their channels will otherwise be stagnant.

You just had the answer yourself man.
>>
>>12264340
Which customers? Where?

You're making shit up lol.

>>12264491
If there was a Steam shim where anybody could sell games on Steam without paying Gaben he wouldn't just sue them. They'd be dead.

And if the community pays the people who don't even do the "work" then new work won't be done. What incentive does any hobbyist have to launch a business venture that will be cloned and sold at half price by the Chinese? You have a very alien brain. I'm guessing you're Chinese yourself.

A lot of homebrew just isn't dumped.
>>
>>12264254
>I remember how people seethed when that USB serial interface company started checking to see if the devices were authentic and many chink USB serial adapters died overnight.
I remember how that blew up in their face spectacularly and they had to back peddle. Fortunately the damage was already done and most people just said fuckem and switched to legitimate Chinese alternatives. I don't know if there's any accurate data on how much market share FTDI lost but they went from the undisputed leader to an also ran quite quickly.

>mister, I feel praise is from coming from people moving from other emulators
>rgb 2 hdmi, in a way your looking at output from the pi and not the console. If I take screenshot and put in on a screen what are you actually viewing.

>>12261113
>>12261116
I pay someone like Champ games or NeoFid, I get something cool and they get some money to keep making games. $5 to $20 that people charge is barely anything or just wait for a sale. Yeah it more than a steam game but its way more niche.

>>12261296
They don't have the concept of paying for music or shows, its just on demand to them. Heey zoomies, want some free music, oh yeah heres ticktock if you want to use it. They paid for it alright but not in the way they expected.

>>12261464
Because X station was 3 years later and got the idea from PSIO. Before PSIO people said it wasn't possible.

>>12264495
A lot of retro gamers are such cheaper asses because they got a system and bag of games $10 15 years ago that they still try to offer people $2 a game. It like the boomers with the $50k classic offering you $20 for expensive and rare parts.
>>
>>12261034
Either use the original consoles or emulate, everything else is pointless.
>>
>>12262014
Video games aren't a hobby.
