How much should I pay for them?Which ones are the best to look out for?Best screen size for the common resolutions from snes to ps2 era.
I wish we had a permanent crt thread
>>12261316>>>/g/
>>12261316>nothing, find an old person throwing one out>Toshiba>I have a 19 inch with both a NES and Xbox 360 hooked up to it
>>12261471They actually are not that great when it comes to crt.
>>12261479what style? I keep seeing component and lcd like screens
>>12261503Why, because they don't believe in myths you've gaslit yourself into believing?
>>12261520you're shilling an awful lot for /g/ for someone on /vr/
>>12261524He's just on retard patrol and trying to get you to move along, but you're not getting the hint.
>>12261526stop samefagging
>tfw got a small Trinitron for like $20 at a thrift store a few years ago>Got rid of it recently when cleaning out house>Thrift stores don't carry them anymore>That same TV for like $300 on eBay nowBoy am I dumb
>>12261535yeah crts are currently valuable af. you either luck into someone throwing it out or you have to drop at least $100 on one
>>12261509What do you mean by style? I have an MW20F51, and the scanlines are subtle and notable in person
>>12261469Too bad it was ruined by anti-CRT schizos. I can understand why the regulars don't want to make threads any more.
>>12261552mean like flat style versus box style. figure box is authentic
>>12261558Oh, it's a box TV. The screen is the only flat part
>>12261567Ive always wondered, is the screen being flat or curved make any difference?
>>12261568Purely subjective
Luckily I grabbed these from the thrift store years ago around Covid. Glad I did, I havent seen a CRT in a thrift store in years since
>>12261587I checked my local thrift stores. nothing but lcds
>>12261591Its crazy, I used to see them every time I went back in 2018-2021. Now, nothing. Sorry anon, check facebook marketplace. Facebook has lots of boomers who dont know what they have and list it as an "old tv"
>>12261602youre right. I was using crt for search and old tv brings up a lot more searches
>>12261591Thrift stores tend to refuse these citing a no junk policy from back when these were literally worthless. Goodwill even refused to take some rc cars because I didn't have batteries for them.
>>1226131619 inch or bigger, small sizes are fine but you'll feel underwhelmed when playing light gun games which you want to do. 6th gen loves 25 inches and up due to all the finer details and draw distances being better on a bigger physical image.
>>12261642what counts as 6th gen? Ps1?
>>12261647cmon now lad, thats an easily google or ChatGPT question and you're gonna make a man personally answer that for ya? I dont mind helping out new people to the hobby but thats too simple of a question :( feels like you're tryna waste peopels timegood luck finding a TV anon!
>>12261656Is this too big? Seller says it's 160 lbs and 35" inches. I don't think I wanna haul that around even though it'll be sat in my living room only once.
>>12261682btw, Im mainly going to be playing 5th gen and lower, but the occasional ps2 game
>>1226168227" is the best balance between size and weight. Unless you're a pencil neck twink they can be moved alone easily. 32 and above gets tricky.
>>12261704There's a 25" that looks nice. Panasonic
When you are poor so you collect overpriced garbage
>>12261738>buying a tv so the picture quality of old consoles is better is bad???
>>12261316I've flipped a ton of CRTs and I'd say the most important thing when looking is geometry, inputs, and size. Size is objective but usually people like 20-27". Inputs:RF = shitComposite = okay Svid and component = good Geometry is the hardest part because you literally need to look at every TV to determine. A lot of nice TVs have shit geometry and a lot of shit TVs have nice geometry, you just have to test it yourself.
>>12261738CRTs are a major tangible part of the experience. I don't generally emulate 8-bit games because the scanline flicker, blending, and static snow add so much to the image. This still image doesn't do it justice, it's something you have to see in person
>>12261738When you are rich so you become a philanthropist sike you collect overpriced garbage anyways
post crt qts
>>12261316>How much should I pay for them?$15-$25 at Goodwill or most thrift stores. You can also try calling any old hospitals, TV stations, radio stations, or newspaper offices in your area. Ask to talk to the engineering or IT department. They will usually have old TVs collecting dust in a closet somewhere. Estate sales are very good source for CRTs, too.>Which ones are the best to look out for?Sony is by far the best picture quality and Sanyo is probably second best. Sonys are the most highly sought after and command some stupid prices on the secondary market.>Best screen size for the common resolutions from snes to ps2 era.19" is probably the best on average but IMO, the bigger the better. I have a 32" Sanyo for Gamecube and Wii, a 36" Sony Trinitron for PS2 and Dreamcast, and a 13" Fisher for NES and SNES.
>>12261771https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNQtQWjX-sAI love this.
mostly all of them are good and i get them for freeyou are just retarded
>>12261682It's not 160lbs lol. They're heavy but it's nowhere near that heavy. Seller is just weak and overestimated.
>>12261817i got mine on craigslist for free
>>12261817>pretty peach princess cuckvape proudly on display>you are retarded!!!
>>12261826this is a big oneit was free i drove over an hour to get it
>>12261817>Duct tape holding the speakers.Dude really? That speaker is going to fall off and you'll be left with an awful goopy mess that will require wd40 to clean off.
>>12261823what the hell is he trying to say here
>>12261316>How much should I pay for them?Just get the cheapest SDTV you can find. Dont overpay for the crtmeme. You can even find them for FREE.>Which ones are the best to look out for?Low hours. Good Condition. Avoid HD 1080i modern tvs that upscale and introduce lag. Get a 480p monitor for HD games.>Best screen size for the common resolutions from snes to ps2 era.27 is the most common. Any size bigger is going to be heavy as fuck and require 2 people to move.
See this on craigslist for free. worth it?
>>12261817>vapeenjoy your lung cancer aids.
>>12261828warm up before stretching, retard
>>12261845yes its FREE. Looks big so its going to be heavy dont drop it.sharp is a decent brand.thats a bog standard SD tv good for retro games.
>>12261828>>12261847nta but it's a thc vape, not a "vape"
>>12261886same thing retard. both are gay.
pet peeve seeing europeans post their weird shitty off-brand sets
>>12261896real ones roll their own
>>12261823My 32 inch JVC CRT is 140 pounds so it could be close to that. Some models are just heavier
>>12261738enough about your retro collection Dave
>>12261587>>12261591>>12261602>>12261637You have to check the drop off areas out back. Some Goodwills take crts, but dont sell them in store. They go to an electronics recycle place usually, but what happens to them when the store is closed is none of their buisness.
>>12261602absolutely S O U L F U L
I have close to, if not already, 100 crts in my possession. Harder to find now, but I still ended up with another 15 or so this year from various sources. Pic being my last find that I took off the porch of an abandoned, boarded up house. They also had a big living room console tv, but the stairs leading up to the porch have literally disintegrated since I got this one.
>>12261975at least they have scart inputs
>>12262003I'll do that tomorrow.
>>12261975There is not a single european set post in this entire thread tardo
>>12261817You need to quit vaping - doesn't matter if its nicotine or thc ur a fag either wayHow often do you hit the side of your tube while typing>>12261845If its free you gotta go for it - bring a lot of pillows/blankets to protect it for the ride back. Give it a clean too
>>12262019Can I come pick one up hoarder anon
>>12262019>100You got a garage big enough for that?
>>12262147nta https://youtu.be/ojr06a-jEN0
>>1226131620 bucks but its getting harder and harder to do that so maybe 150 if its a good one?
>>12262173Its split between my garage, my parents garage, my basement and multiple across the rooms of my house, some in use, others tucked away. >>12262165I was planning on probably selling off a couple at a few small game pop-up swap-meets I sell and trade some other excess stuff at.
>>12262217>I was planning on probably selling off a couple at a few small game pop-up swap-meets I sell and trade some other excess stuff at.nta but sell some of that. hows shipping for crts?
>>12262204I'd say if it's in good shape and has no issues, $150 is fair, but you have to be pretty quick to buy in 2026 because there are way more buyers than sellers right now.
>>12261847>lung cancer from vapingThe lung cancer from smoking is from inhaling burning plant matter not the nicotine. For example, an English gov't analysis has shown vaping is at least 95% safer than smoking. There is no evidence it's bad for your health at all but there's obviously something. Better than eating chicken nuggets. Vaping isn't "cool" but I'm not going to pretend it causes cancer remotely near someone who inhales burning leaves.
>>12261316>How much should I pay for them?$0i doubt your zoomer ass can even lift one
>>12262234No clue. I would never sell them on ebay or attempt to ship one, nor buy one that way.
>>12262269Youd be surprised how fit some anons are on this board
>>12262147>>12262182eat shit fagshttps://youtu.be/c211yCCZdJY
I got mine for my birthday and it apparently costs 80 dollars. Is that too much?
>>12262450What the fuck does it matter if it was a gift? Are you going to return it?
>>12261316>How much should I pay for them? All your pennies. Both of them.>Which ones are the best to look out for?The ones telling you non-black babies are the reason you're retarded.
>>12261316You can still get them free or under $40 on marketplace but it varies by area. More premium brands go for more. Just look up a video on brands and connection types, tvs with s-video and up inputs will go for more. I would get one now before things get worse. Just in the past two years even, they've gotten more scarce and expensive. And don't use ebay unless desperate because they're way more expensive and never go above 13 inch due to shipping costs and risk of breaking. If desk gaming close up, 13 inch is cool and works. Sharp image. 20 inch also good but are a bit bulkier so takes up more space. I think 27 inches are very good and best of all worlds size without being too heavy. Don't go above 32 inch typically unless gaming all the way across a large living room or some shit. They're just too heavy and annoying to move and they start to get a bit worse for close viewing due to image stretch and the mask being more visible close up.
>find cool crt locally>guy is asking $500 for it>even on ebay the price is like half thatwhy even bother? it's just going to sit there for months until the price is lowered
>>12261316When you buy them in person I would check the glass screen for scratches. I remember buying a Sony Wega 27in for 30 then realized it had a deep scratch at home. I was cool with it for a while but I just kept noticing the scratch and tossed out the CRT.
>>12262963You are going to find people like this selling things all the time, they aren't serious.
>>12262967this is the biggest problem i've found with larger CRTs as of late - you think you have a steal and there there's always at least one annoying scratch in the middle
>>12262967>>12263709Is there no liquid glass filler or some kinda shit for car windows that can be used to make it atleast less noticeable?
>>12263734I've never took a deep look into finding a good solution. I tried buffing out the scratch with cerium oxide glass polish but the scratch was way too deep.
>>12261568Some people don't like the distortion you get on the edges of the screen, but I feel it's really only noticeable during scrolling in 2D games and even then it's not a huge deal imo
>>12261602Nice to see another kaiju enjoyer
Just picked this up for $20 yesterday.
How much should I pay for them?>nothingWhich ones are the best to look out for?>none of themBest screen size for the common resolutions from snes to ps2 era.>It doesn’t matter. Even back then the bigger the screen the better
>>12261535You can maybe get 300 bucks for it, but you're responsible for shipping it, and you're liable if it doesn't arrive in good condition, and the guy on the other end can just decide it's not what he paid for and send it back (possibly damaged again en route) because PayPal are 100% for the buyer and nobody else.Something like this happened to me, new item sold, returned used, had to return the money and hold onto a worse item I couldn't resell.
>>12263926And here's an SNES hooked up. Really like the screen but the case is pretty beat.
>>12261535buying CRTs on ebay is full retard, both price wise and the fact it will not arrive in 1 piece. every single day on fb or reddit i see some retard buying a CRT online and it showing up smashed to fuck.if you want one just be happy with whatever one you can grab for less than 50 bucks from some old lady cleaning out her garage. dont be some retard that thinks he needs a PVM or a certain model
