What was the Twilight Princess hype like? Was it seen as the next OoT?

Yep. Wind Waker had fans when it released, but most people were ready for the next 'real' Zelda.Jeff Gerstmann of Gamespot got a fuckton of outcry for daring to give it an 8.8/10. Pretty much every other publication gave it a perfect score, at least a 9.5/10. Gamespot's review is genuinely among the lowest the game got and people went fucking apeshit. His criticisms were all completely valid and are commonly held now, by the way (game is too similar to Ocarina, too easy, doesn't do enough to push the series forward).

It's the best Zelda game if you can get over the dogshit pacing. It's fine the first time but miserable on replays. When the game is done being decompiled I would love to see a romhack that just trims some of the fat, cut down the time spent in the village at the beginning, cut out the unnecessary second trip you need to take to get to the first dungeon, cut out the bug hunts as wolf link, and a few other things and the game would be greatly improved without really losing anything.

Other than that it is a fine game that does not need to "push" the series forward or whatever that means, unless you mean devolving into a Ubisoft game with the skin of Zelda. If they made Twilight Princess 2, the best fix would be making bosses harder instead of teasing you with hints of difficulty before prematurely ending the fight. Make items have more puzzle and combat utility in other dungeons, the Spinner and Dominion Rod are the worst cases of this. Buff common enemies and make healing resources scarce. Finally, revamp wolf gameplay to be fun or just remove it entirely. This remixed TP would be a guaranteed hit and rival OOT. But Nintendo always goes retarded and instead of learning their mistakes they just threw everything in the bin and whored out the franchise to Ubisoft. Thanks Aonuma. Thanks Fujibayashi. >>12262907I had bought WW to play OoT, and wouldn't you know it, the next thing they do is reveal Twilight Princess, which was exactly what I wanted. Exciting times, reading all the previews leading up to release and then getting to play it myself on christmas.
