is the weakest argument one can have against a video game.
Pic very much related because it's hard as a rock, yet quite rewarding for its time on a handheld.
My problem with Battletoads is the controls are floaty and the hit detection is off, so that means it's a broken game, so losing to that doesn't even count. If I could just do what screen seems to be telling me to do like in every other game in existence, I'd play it and maybe even git gud enough to beat it.

Disliking a game because it's hard=cringe

Disliking a game because it's easy=kino

Yes. Take Contra (NES) as the prime example for the easy part since it will eat you alive if you give it a centimeter for a millisecond, so as long as you pay attention, it's easy.

balancing is always a valid point of criticism
>>
I play fighting games so I mog all of you platformer kiddies
>>
>>12263936
True, but there's more to balance than difficulty.
Are the controls responsive? Is the hit detection good? Does it have mandatory irritating parts?

There's a difference between difficult and tedious. I find the Mega Man games are challenging but fair. But if you take, for example, a game where the final boss can kill you in one hit, and then kicks you back to the previous level, a 7-minute autoscroller that's obnoxious as fuck to play through, well that's just shitty game design. The boss itself isn't hard, but you have to learn how to kill it, and you can't really do that in an efficient way if it can kill you so easily

Shots fired at Toki, ape down, I repeat ape down.
I guess you're right on Mega Man too, but I find the ones past 2 to be tedious due to the janky weapon/item selection screen that was just fine beforehand.

Both are stupid, in fact.

I was talking about Ecco actually haha. And then there's Chakan, which, if you die to the boss, who kills you in one hit, game over, and you have to play through the entire game to face him again.

That game intrigues me, but I always put off playing it. I had it on a SEGA collection for Switch, then they removed it.

Ow.

There is nothing wrong with Battletoads's controls and hit detection, unless you're talking about some unspecified obscure version I haven't seen.
It sounds more like in cope mode
>actually when I don't like a hard game it's not because it's hard it's because it's bad design!!!
Basically sounding like a modern gamer except more articulate.

Yes it's the American rental/sale version.
>>

Nah. If I'm curbstomped by first stage then later levels are always increasingly bullshit for no reason.
And if it's easy then there's often a guaranteed spike on 3rd-4th stage.
It's therefore valid to drop and call out slogs that rely on the above.
>>
>>12264284
OP here, then what game fits all of that, yet is worth it to stick out and play to the end?
>>
>>12264065
Ecco 1 is okay but has a lot of annoying bullshit. It's obtuse and the map sucks and some jumps you have to pull off are obscene. Better off using an out-of-game that shows you where to go next. I don't care if that's not how the designers intended it to be played; it's a slog without it.

Ecco 2 is better in every single way. The 3 future alien levels suck though and I recommend a guide for those as well.
