>play these "amazing" games>It's just okWhy the speccy exclusive library is so underwhelming?I love the commodore 64 and MSX but damn i have suffered so many disappointement with the speccyThe only exclusive that i really loved was Manic Miner, amazing gameThe other stuff is either mediocre (Horace goes skiing, Chuckie Egg, Lunar Jetman...) or pretty good but not amazing(Jet Set Willy,Rainbow Islands,Boulder Dash...)
>>12264230>be british child in 80s>dad gets laid off from coal mine job>has just enough money to get you a 48k speccy to shut you up and stop you whining about why were eating baked beans for dinner again>copy tapes from your mates whose pa's are also unemployedsuch is life in thatcher's britain

>>12264230>Why the speccy exclusive library is so underwhelming?computer has very little power. what did you expect? 1:1 ports of sega's daytona arcade machine?>>12264587>copy tapes from your mates whose pa's are also unemployedeveryone was pirating back then, faggot. back in the 1980s you could go to markets and pick up copied tapes and disks, all cracked too. it's so rampant and out in the open that nobody really cared except for software developers and UK authorities>such is life in thatcher's britainstill beats living in the united states of mexico
>>12264230I think you're doing it wrong, man.Yeah, when it comes to exclusives, there maybe really isn't that much that stands out. To me it's: "Gift From the Gods", "Quazatron", "Contact Sam Cruise", "Rebelstar".However there were loads of games that were excellent on ZX because of it's architecture. It had quite beefy CPU for the time and it sacrificed screen RAM on attributes, so you could monochrome it and do pretty fast 3d or pseudo 3d, like in all those isometric games for example.ZX was the system that everyone had, so many games were developed specifically for ZX and ported to the other systems later on.
TL;dr it was cheap enough for every brit to afford. that was the Clive Sinclair wayI’m an American and we didnt really “get” Clive Sinclair. He is most remembered here for his cheap digital watch and calculator. A decade ago i watched the docu-drama called “Micromen” which is the story of both Sinclair and Acorn Computers. It is all very British but a fascinating bit of computer history.the entire movie is free on youtubehttps://youtu.be/XXBxV6-zamMpicrelclive ainclair was obsessed with electric cars but he was a few too many decades ahead of his time and he didnt have the engineers to be the first “Tesla” but he did dream it
>>12265529>Kurt Cobain had an NES (which he bought with his first advance cheque from his music publishing deal) and a Game Boy>Layne Staley had a Genesis on the Alice in Chains tour bus and later dropped out of public life to do smack and play his Super NintendoAny other grunge gamers?
>>12265550People shit on the Speccy but it arguably kickstarted the UK games industry. It opened up programming to the masses, kids that were too poor for a Commodore or Acorn were cutting their teeth on the Speccy, starting out in BASIC and moving on to machine code. Even stuff like Grand Theft Auto, all roads lead back to the humble Speccy because it laid the foundations for software houses to flourish.
>>12265550This is kind of a good movie DESU.
>>12265550>“Micromen” which is the story of both Sinclair and Acorn Computers. It is all very British but a fascinating bit of computer history.it was nothing more than fan fiction reinventing computer history and many other events. clive was a decent dude and they made his character look like an asshole. instead of celebrating british technology it was if they were mocking it. the actors and producers of the show clearly didn't understand any of it
