The only time I played this was when I was 8 and I got filtered by figuring out where I could stand and what platform was actually just part of the background. I remember being extremely confused on where to go.

EWJ2 is more fun as a whole to me. Lots of insufferable gimmicks too but the variety makes it tolerable.
Lorenzo's Soil remains the best level in the series (sorry PCucks)

Beat it but didn't like a single level, is just weird to me.
>It has some platforming but never does a clever section where jumping is actually fun, tricky or challenging

2 was better, actually does something with its gimmicks and overall level design is way better, actually has fun with it. 1 just feels like the type of game you beat for bragging rights and that's it.

Nah, lots of japanese platformers have great, precise controls: mega man, castlevania, ninja gaiden, adventure island, any of the capcom/sega disney games or konami's warner games.
Westerner devs just weren't too interested in polishing controls and collision detection, with EWJ it's like "lol whatever, let's add more animation frames!"
