I think so. Things that will keep you alive longer and items to trade later in the sequence. The angel rifle is the weapon to kill god, if you don't have it, you can't beat the game.

You can't beat it in one run, there are other things to do outside of the main dungeon you can't do the first time around.
There tutorial dungeon exists, it just doesn't treat you like a baby like on PSX.

I looked into it a little more. Might give it a go. It's got some odd themes, but it's not as outright blasphemous as, say, SMT. The gameplay looks incredible too.
