Which one was the better 3rd Street Fighter series?
>>12267675Third Strike is basically an original game featuring Ryu Ken and Chun Li. Alpha 3 was the closest thing to an all star dream match game in its final versions.Third Strike is like MK4, Alpha 3 is like UMK3, Trilogy, or Armageddon. Or say KoF98. I always hate "new generation" games that abandon the old whether it's fan favorite beloved characters or gameplay styles
Neither one is truly worthy to the name of Street Fighter. Both are derived from the gameplay changes that were made for Vampire. The arcade release of Street Fighter EX is closer to the SF2 gameplay than the Zero or III series. But Capcom has never really made another new SF2 style game.
sf3 because it doesnt play like sf2.
>>12267708>I always hate "new generation" games that abandon the old whether it's fan favorite beloved characters or gameplay stylesthis is why i prefer alpha. iii's new cast is made up of a bunch of shitters.
>>12267675EX
Alpha 1
>>12268751>that chun li alpha 1 spriteno
special championship edition is the only street fighter worth playing, so neither.
>>12268881Actually its the new challengers
>>12267709>>12268170based
>>12267709>>12268170not based, EX is hot garbage that aged like milk
>>122676753S, objectively.>t.A3 player.
>>12268840Chun li has the same sprite in alpha 1 as she does in its sequels, unless you really want to use her classic outfit.
>>12268963EX is not that great, but objectively it features a closer style of gameplay to SF2 than the Zero or III games.
>>12267675At the high level of play, each SF2 game is quite different from one another. So imo the third game in the Street Fighter franchise is SF2CE.
>>12267675I like 3rd strike just for the visuals. I can't take looking at all the anime midgets in Alpha.
Alpha wins best story best characters Street Fighter 3 is overrated
>>12267675EX3
>>12267675Alpha doesn't introduce that many popular characters to the franchise other than Charlie and R Mika.Meanwhile Makoto, Oro, Elena, Alex have come back due to their popularity.
>>12267675probably not the one that sent the whole franchise into a coma
>>12267675The best one was 2, why even try to exclude it, you stupid idiot? I will never forgive you for this.

Even though many point out the differences between the heavily detailed, many choices of gameplay that is ALPHA 3, versus the simplicity that was SF2… ALPHA 3 Upper is still much much more akin to SF2 Than SF3 is.And as someone fairly adept at Street Fighter titles and 2d fighting games in general… Alpha 3, like an earlier poster said, is like UMK3:- a larger roster- evolution of the gameplay style that originated with SF2and like another poster accurately stated: - ALPHA 3 is in many ways also an extension of Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior games. On the other hand, SF3 3rd Strike, is a radically new game unto itself, very different than anything prior, but still rooted in familiar concepts Capcom long established as the standard in 2d fighting gameplay.truly fresh gameplay, in just the right ways. Shame it never got an updated release with a much larger roster on Naomi 2 or some other early 00’s arcade board …
>>12269310>Alpha doesn't introduce that many popular characters to the franchise other than Charlie and R Mika. Are you seriously going to argue that Rose, Dan, Sakura and Karin are not popular?
>>12269423I feel like the Darkstalkers comparisons are iffy, like yeah it's more technical than SF2, but it's still not like Darkstalkers. Darkstalkers, Marvel, and Rival Schools all basically invented the "anime fighter" , you're not gonna be fighting in mid air or doing super jumps in alpha 3, and the only way you're doing any xtreeeem combos is by being an xism sperg which is only like a small portion of the upper competitive players Having some new mechanics like air blocking or guard breaks and rolls, really makes it a little more SNK like than Darkstalkers hyper cartoon fighting that Marvel ran with
>>12269296explain because i dont see how other than being slow
>>12269298the question was about the 3rd series not 3rd game
>>12269946In that case the third series begins with Super Street Fighter II.
>>12269959lose weight
>>12267675Its okay to enjoy both anonFalse dichotomy threads should be punishable by death
>>12269973only because you think one is better doesn't mean you can't enjoy both.
>>12267675alpha for sakura and karin, 3 only had an ugly nigger bitch
>>12267675Alpha, obviously. It gave us Sakura, Karin, and Mika. SF3 gave us shit like Remy and Necro.
>>12267675I prefer alpha 3 because I love the ps1 port. I has 2nd impact on the dreamcast and didn't play 3rd strike until I downloaded it on my ps3. 3rd strike is based but as someone who mostly played ports at home alpha 3's content makes the game more memorable to me.
>>12267708>I always hate "new generation" games that abandon the old whether it's fan favorite beloved characters or gameplay stylesNot retro but I unironically skipped Soul Calibur V literally just because they replaced half of the characters
3rd strike is the only one people actually give a shit about
>>12267783Unironically filthered.
>>12270660>I must only accept the popular thingReddit is more your speed anon
>>12267675The one with Ingrid of course
>>12270773So neither?(Alpha 3 MAX isn't canon)
>>12269959Many of the highest level SF2 heads, as well as tournament organizers, would agree with you. The changes SF2 went thru, with the highest peaks being “Hyper Fighting” and then the perfect final form “Super Turbo”, were perhaps the most formative in fighting game history. All that said, SF3: 3RD STRIKE is still in 2025, the greatest game in the entire street fighter franchise. And it’s not close. Competitively, artistically/aesthetically, spiritually, psychologically, hypothetically, realistically, and even casually…. It’s just a timeless gem in all of video game history.
>>12270817The newest port of ALPHA 3 UPPER on the “Capcom Fighting Collection 2” , features everything that Alpha 3 Upper has to offer, as well as all the extras & extra character roster additions, from ALL the home ports, yes even the GBA & PSP rosters. It’s a great game. Many say Alpha 3 Upper (especially in this new all-encompassing form) is the 2nd best Street Fighter game in the entire franchise, ahead of X-Men vs Street Fighter (do not play PS1 port), 2nd Impact, Alpha 3, Alpha 2 Gold, Super Turbo, Hyper Fighting, or any of 4/5/6. I agree, it is. If we counted Marvel vs Capcom 2 as a Street Fighter title, then it could surpass Alpha 3 Upper, to compete with 3rd Strike, same goes for Capcom vs SNK 2, but for strictly titles with the phrase “Street Fighter” in the title…it’s a solid #2.So the real lesson OP taught us all, without knowing it, is both of these games are essential timeless classics, and if you aren’t playing both at least once in awhile, you can’t possibly truly love fighting games.1. Street Fighter 3 : 3rd Strike 2. Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper 3. X-Men vs Street Fighter 4. Street Fighter 3 : 2nd Impact 5. Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter6. Vanilla Alpha 37. Alpha 2 Gold8. Super SF2 Turbo 9. Vanilla Alpha 210. SF2 Hyper Fighting
