Soul Calibur II seems like the only retro 3D fighting game that can maintain any kind of present day audience. No one bothers with older Tekken or Virtua Fighter games like they do compared to old 2D fighters like Vampire Savior or Capcom vs. SNK 2.

Games are mostly made to replace older ones.This is different from 2D where every installment holds up on its own.
