Am I too retarded for this game?I don't really understand the gameplay. You constantly have to stay close to towns in order to recruit fresh troops, but you also have to go away and explore. That means constant backtracking to have a strong army. The never-ending recruitment, backtracking and navigating multiple armies kind of destroys the fun for me. Am I playing it wrong?
>>12269514You can keep a hero on the front line and use other heroes to transport troops to him. You're at a disadvantage if you want to field one hero and one army.>>12269543Depending on the map and difficulry setting, turtling isn't very viable because you need to explore and conquer to outpace the enemy in resources and troop production.
Focus on a main hero, give him best creatures/artifacts, have scouts, use them to bring creatures/artifacts to main hero.
>>12269514Pretty much what others have said. Are you playing the campaigns or what? Typically, you have your main hero and sides/scouts. To put it simply, all the EXP goes to your main (if you're playing the campaigns, check which heroes get transitioned to the next scenario). You want to use his turns with maximum efficiency, mostly just levelling up and taking the most important fights. The sides do everything else—explore, pick up resources, flag mines, and so on. Learn how chaining works. It's really desirable to get some stat artifacts early, as these can get transitioned between heroes. Basically you juggle your artifacts and army between heroes. Rest depends on scenario
>>12269546>>12269548>>12269559Thanks guys. I tried to build up 2-3 armies simultaneously instead of maining just one, maybe that was my mistake. Is it also better to focus on gold or exp when leveling up?
>>12269565And what do you do when your cities get attacked? That was actually the reason why I didn't main just one. In that case wouldn't I be screwed?
>>12269565>Thanks guys. I tried to build up 2-3 armies simultaneously instead of maining just one, maybe that was my mistake.Generally you want one big army, yeah>Is it also better to focus on gold or exp when leveling up?Wat?If you're asking "what to do with chests", the simple answer is: usually you pick gold. If you pick it with your side hero, just take gold, they don't need EXP much. Your main generally won't waste turns picking stuff, if you do pick a chest then take what you need most (EXP if you don't see much of it around or need it quick, otherwise gold).Experience can always be acquired from fights, gold cannot.
>>12269570That's one of the big questions of the game, first off if they DO get attacked, then you probably should have seen this beforehand. You still haven't said what scenario you're playing. If that's a campaign and you see enemy heroes attacking your base, obviously you want to guard your towns a bit; depending on the army size of course. But a better question is, where are they coming from? If they are coming from some town, capture that town to protect your other towns. Try to cut off the access to your towns gradually, while pushing the enemy in the corner. It's obviously better taking enemies one by one, town by town, instead of being spread thin guarding towns all over map.
>>12269575Yeah I meant chests haha.>Your main generally won't waste turns picking stuffHuh? Does he only fight?
>>12269514You need more heroes and to play more aggressively but this becomes unbearable when you play with multiple other people and everyone's turn is long as fuck. Especially when it's hot seat mode and everyone is drunk.
>>12269559>check which heroes get transitioned
>>12269592there's a Sandro joke hidden in there somewhere
>>12269583>Huh? Does he only fight? You still haven't said if you're playing a campaign, a single scenario, or a random template. In a campaign, your main may be less busy, and the game may be comparatively slow. In that case, if you don't see that much gold around, your main may as well act like another side hero: scouting, picking up resources and so on. I recall some campaign heroes are pretty trashy (i.e. Gem), so even when leveled up, she's not that good (especially if she doesn't roll good skills). Also, if it's a campaign, check your main's level cap. Obviously, going over that doesn't have much point. In a faster scenario or a template, your main typically only levels up and takes fights, everything else is handled by side heroes.
play a better game instead, OP
it's just a boring franchise after they stopped making dungeon crawlers
