is spending 200$ (minimum) on a decent set of Magnetically shielded speakers + an amp worth it? I mean I personally think the built-in speakers sound fine but I know the PS1 has especially high quality sound. Is it worth it anons?
>>
Yes anon you HAVE to spend big bucks on obsolete garbage or you're not a Real Retro Gamer.
>>
I don't use magnetically shielded speakers, I have zero problems. Just don't place them right next to the TV.

This but ironically
>>
>>12270909
Just use computer speakers that are magnetically shielded.
>>
If your TV's sound sucks and you want the Real Retro Experience, find a boom box with line-in.
>>
>>12270909
If you're gonna play retro games on your CRT every day, then why not? Otherwise, the TV speaker(s) usually get the job done.

I have those speakers for my computer.
They're pretty good.
>>
I have speakers attached to every display in my house except the CRTs. Entirely unnecessary for retro vidya.

I just make a speaker stack with thrifted shelf speakers, good sound fidelity for the price.

if you want to troll lose this line, no non-retarded adult is confused about composite cables.

this sounds like ass compared to single speakers. You get a weird choir effect doing this.
>>
>>12273856
>choir effect
1: it's called chorus
2: you're thinking of phasing
3: neither of those are happening with my setup

That depends on what you're wanting out of the setup. There are a lot of solutions at all sorts of price brackets. However, magnetic shielding has been getting less common these days.

These were the first results on Amazon that mentioned CRT screens, so I saved up a couple years worth of Microsoft Points and I finally got them on a holiday sale knocking the price down to under $100USD. They are self-powered, so they don't require an amp. Unlike the ones I do that require an amp being comically large by comparison to the CRT, these are a fine size. However, I still have to save up for the matching subwoofer, which may take a couple more years of Microsoft Rewards grinding and more Doordash/Uber Eats work, but I get a lot of joy not only having the games look as good as I remember but sounding even better.

it’s just old videogames, man. if you put good headphones on you’d realize how cheese the sound card is. why presume you’ll need $200 for that, but why *do* you need $200 worth of speaker audio for a kid’s game. also why would you spend that protecting speaker when you could get good headphones that would be compatible with all systems regardless of the tv set. a little adapter will let you connect your audio cables to headphones
