Are the Myst games any good? I want to get more into point and click adventures after really enjoying Sam and Max Hit the Road
Myst isn't point and click. Also Myst (and games like it) requires some working brain cells (not that many, unfortunately).
>>12271403>requires working brain cellsLooks like they've filtered me then
>>12271393one of my favorites for sure
>>12271393dont play the ones where you can walk around freely in 3d im begging you
>>12271393Myst is great, and pretty short, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go.>>12271403>Myst isn't point and click.wut
myst is less of a game and more of a collection of low res early 90s 3d renders
>>12271403>Myst isn't point and clickWhat the fuck are you talking about. By any logical definition of the genre it is.>>12271393Yeah, Myst is great. Riven is better.
>>12271758This. It really kills the design of the games, I made this mistake the first time and got bored of the game after an hour or two, after going back to it years later with the original release I had way more fun. I don't think 3D is terrible for a replay where you already know where everything is, but for a first playthrough it just makes shit harder to find and doesn't actually improve anything.Sam and Max is a very different kind of game to Myst, too. You'd be better off with something like Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island, maybe Full Throttle.
>>12272186It's a puzzle game. You solve puzzles.
>>12271758I disagree. RealMyst was my favorite version.
>there used to be a time when the world so intelligent and white that a slow paced puzzle game with overt Gnostic themes was a best-sellerNowadays the best selling game is some AI generated brown Frenchmutt abomination
i just remember it being a pain in the ass to change the disc every time you went somewhere new in riven
Going off old memory here. Myst was created by two guys who were making HyperCard games on the Mac. When CD rom got big, their publisher asked them for a new concept and they brainstormed this and rushed out a presentation. They got a big budget contract and then developed this revolutionary game themselves. The creative story is fascinating. The game was the “anti-doom” and very good at the time. It is worth experiencing.
Myst is good but the sequel Riven has a great argument for best of the genre. Play both, and I second the notion to ignore the realtime 3d versions.
>>12271393Myst is quick and can be completed in one afternoon if you slept well the night before and ate a good breakfast. You won’t be disappointed after having played through it. That said, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is a much stronger point n’ click that came out earlier.
Are the playstation releases for Myst and Riven any good? I want a version to play on my chinkheld.
>>12273018Is there a lot of pixel hunting in these? I'd imagine it might be a pain on a small chinkheld screen.
>>12273024it's 3.5" 640x480p, so other playstation games where you have to read lots of stuff aren't so bad.
>>12273018Playing it on a handheld might not be ideal. I remember getting stuck on one of the later puzzles when playing on the psp bedause it required some extremely fine tuning of some hard to see dials or something and between the small screen and resulting lack of precision with the controls i found it nearly impossible
>>12273161That's fair. I've downloaded them anyways, so I'll give them a go and see how much the screen size screws me over.
>>12271393Myst 1 is dogshit. It's just a gimmicky pre-rendered smorgasbord of random puzzles. The later games actually create a story and world that you care about.
>>12275181t. wasn't paying attention
>>12275189No, I wasn't, because it wasn't engaging.
