what are yalls favorite rpg on the snes besides the super obvious ones? meaning:
>Chrono Trigger
>Earthbound
>FF IV/V/VI
>SMRPG
>DQ I/II/III remakes and V/VI
Ive noticed theres a tonnnn of translated jap only games to choose from as well which im super interested in. where should I start? I dont really care for strategy rpgs.

Ys V - unlike any Ys game before it, short and easy arpg
Tales of Phantasia SNES - not the best version but this was revolutionary
Shin Megami Tensei I, II, if... - dungeon crawlers, the best of the best
Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei - 2-in-1 remake of the nes games
Star Ocean - It was aight.
Seiken Densetsu 3 - Finally removed the attack% gauge, and the game is fun again
Thracia 776 - I know you said no srpgs but I really do love this game, best fe

it bugs me so much thats its the only game in the series that forces you to play as the protagonist in combat.

damn guess I am starting lufia 2 then. does it matter I havent played 1? I will use the patched version

interesting I didnt know megami tensei got snes remakes. Ive been meaning to play these games for a while, are they really worth going for over the NES games? I pretty much always prefer OG versions but theres a few rare exceptions

among all the fan translations ive played this one is easily my favorite, its a gem. especially if you love earthbound, you should play it. its actually the only other rpg Ive played besides mother 1 that captures the same kind of humor, sincerity and trippy contemporary setting of earthbound, though the story is a lot darker/edgier. to me this is the real mother 3 and not the travesty itoi shitted out. but for some reason it makes a lot of redditor tourists on this site seethe for some reason, just ignore them and try it yourself.

no need to play the first game. Lufia 2 is an immediate prequel to 1, so it comes first in the story. Also, Lufia 1 is kind of a medicore game. So you can skip 1.

It depends on your preference.
Personally I think both versions are just as good but most people would rather play the snes version just because it's the more advanced system

The Adventures of Hourai High. Aeon Genesis did a fan translation a while ago:

sorta EarthBound-ish (modern-day setting, surrealist humour and weird enemies, similar battle system).

Seconding this, Evermore is awesome. Only left it off my list because I was avoiding action RPGs.

Secret of evermore kind of blows. I say this as someone who still has his original boxed copy I bought from the week it came out. I've probably beaten it like 10 times and it sucks every time because the dungeons are just retarded labyrinths in the dark. Don't know how I put up with it back in the day. It looks cool though
