I've decided to start playing through all the video games I've missed over the years in the order they were released, starting with the NES. I'm not gonna buy every console ever so I'd like to know what your favorite emulator for every system is. I guess the easy answer would be to use retroarch but the UI is so awful and I find it weird to use with all its cores.

Very cool anon, but what are *your* favorite emulators to use?

I simply use RetroArch. It just works.
>>
NES: fceux
SNES: 9x
N64: Mupen64
GCN/Wii: Dolphin
PS1: Duckstation
PS2: PCSX2
Saturn: Ymir
DC: Redream
Xbox: Xemu

For everything else I use Retroarch or original hardware.

You could still just get the stand alone versions of the emulators in the popular cores for each system. If it's good enough to be included in Retroarch it's probably good enough for general use

This nigger is retarded and lives on foodstamps.

that nigga must have jesus making anything on xemu run at a playable rate

What should I use for Dreamcast instead? Don't say Flycast, that's terrible

After using rpcs3 and xenia it is hard to go back to other shitty emulators.

i've only used xenia for ace combat 6 and it seems pretty shit and barebones compared to rpcs3

I feel like it's impossible to have an emulation discussion because most people have already come to a consensus on what emulators are the best. Never mind that they all fulfill very different roles. Bizhawk, RetroArch and Mednafen all roughly do the same thing but they have clear use cases. Even in terms of individual consoles, there are still reasons to use ePSXe or even XEBRA over DuckStation.

Those being? I mean I know the author of Duckstation is a massive faggot but what else?

nullDC works for me.
>>
>>12273713
epsxe can use resolution above native without major warping issues.Duckstation can't.
Go check yourself fi you want. Load mgs1 above normal resolution and check the forklift near the elevator in the first area on both emulators.
Xebra on the other is much more accurate than duckstation and epsxe and doesn't require any tinkering but also doesn't have any major enhancements.
>>
>>12273553
once its set up it's great for many system but yes, it can be a pain. and the wiki as >>12273559 mentioned is good. wikipedia can be very outdated. It still mentions NullDC as an option for Dreamcast..
>>
For PSX, if the game doesn't need overclocking and / or PGXP, I use Mednafen. If it does I have no choice but to use Duckstation but I hate it because of all those condescending pop up messages that assume I'm a retard, it's insulting. It's amazing how for zoomers, having your computer treat you like you have down syndrome is just natural.

Cores are just emulators really, and RetroArch works as a central hub to go back and forth between them seamlessly. It has a few UI options and a desktop mode for PC if I recall corretly, see if there's one you like, as for the bloat and overwhleming amount of stuff, most of the options can be ignored, it's still good having them in case you need them really.

Emulators just feel like they should be standalone. That's how they were when I first got into them anyway. But if I did decide to use Retroarch, then this thread would be about which cores to use.

For all the Nintendo consoles and SMS/GEN I recently switched over to Ares and it just works great. I really appreciate the focus on accuracy and its coming along well, their N64 core especially is the best emulator for that system by far.
Dolphin and PCSX2 for GC and PS2 obviously(Love the software renderer in PCSX2 I wish Dolphins was usable). Xemu for Xbox is really fucking great so far, so much stuff works flawlessly and it gets pretty frequent updates, I imagine in another year it'll be pretty consistent and in a good enough spot to be able to ditch real hardware, for the games I like on Xbox it pretty much already is for me.
For everything else I stick with retroarch. Swanstation core for PS1, Beetle Saturn Software Renderer for Saturn, and Flycast for Dreamcast. Flipflop between FB Neo and MAME cores for arcade. Heck even the 3DO and CDi cores are really good I don't see many people mention those, which I guess is fair since they're notoriously shit consoles but I like being able to check the libraries out.

As for stuff I'd like to see in the future, I would like for the Jaguar emulator BigPEmu to be ported to retroarch or ares. I really just don't want to bother with standalone emulators anymore and its an especially ugly and annoying one to use with its horrible UI but its the only place to get decent Jaguar emulation. Other than that, I really can't think of anything I really want to see that needs major improvement or doesn't already exist. Emulations in a nearly perfect state across the board these days if you know what you're doing and not retarded(you should always play at native res and dial in hardware accurate settings), it's fucking awesome. I have fullsets for everything from Atari 2600 to the original Xbox and with all the weird shit inbetween and couldn't tell you the last time I played something that didn't work or was plagued with distracting graphical bugs, etc. Its all just worked how I would expect it to on real hardware and its beautiful.

Yes it can. You just need to enable PGXP in the settings.

Not talking about the original hardware wobbly textures. Duckstation introduces new wobbly texture problems when upscaling.PGSX only fixes the original issues.
