Well, no. It's just a big knob you tilt for the cardinal and ordinal directions.

Anyway Colecovision has shitloads of good games. It's a box you'll find lots to love on. It's a little temperamental but well worth fixing up, and receives lots of homebrew love.

Near-arcade-accurate Donkey Kong. Yes, I would have loved to have had one back in the day.

Kinda
>>12277382
Great SEGA support, basically an SG-1000 with a way bigger library in terms of catalog, it's a kickass machine.
>>
>>12277382
A great console with an unfortunately short lifespan. The company ran out of money and abrubtly ended all video game activity by early 1985. In a better world the console could potentially co-exist with NES for some time and be competitive against the Black Box games.
>>
>>12277382
It had a good version of Arctic Adventure. And Frantic Freddy was kind of cool for its time
>>
I've never seen this console before and I thought you were posting a phone.

This board really ought to be a 40 years and over only board. Honestly. You should leave.

It's one of those consoles that are kinda forgotten by younger gamers like the Intellivision and the Magnavox Odyssey 2

Decent Donkey Kong port.

>Donkey Kong
colecovision donkey kong is the first game I have any memory of playing, couldn't have been older than 3 since it was at me old house
>>
>>12277607
That's awesome. I have no memory of the very first game I played, just a handful of probable candidates. You're lucky. Hang on to that memory.
>>
>>12277382
>great games
>first console exclusive Konami games
>better joystick than the 2600 (overlays are so much better)
>port of donkey kong inspired the nes platform as a whole
I'm thinking based

They were all arcade ports. CV was the first console to deliver on what Atari falsely promised - arcade quality games at home.

oh, my young apprentice....

Not analog. But don't worry. I made a controller that has an analog stick. You can use it as a wheel, spinner, or roller.
>>
>>12277823
Wasn't that just a rip off of Pitfall?
>>
>>12277886
1977 was way beyond the beginning, my young zoomer apprentice. Like I stated, video games started out in black and white.
>>
>>12278330
What's not analogue about it? Of course it is.
You zoomers don't know shit.

What game is that? Is it homebrew? It looks a lot like a Zelda I clone.
>>
>>12278417
Alcazar, which is the game that inspired Zelda making Zelda an Alcazar clone.
>>
>>12278418
Very interesting, I will have a look at it.

I don't know. We had this. My Grandma got me it and a dozen games from a garage sale in 1991 for $5. Later that year she got us an SNES to make up for it.
>>
>>12278954
That's an obscure one for sure. It's funny just how many of these old consoles from the 70's and early 80's there are that are barely even remembered anymore.
>>
>>12279008
That's what defines the true retro era: When vidya wasn't as set in stone as today and you had more than 3 companies trying to compete in the big boy league
5th gen was pretty much the last one like this with consoles like the 3DO and the Jaguar
>>
>>12279032
I remember reading that the industry was anticipating a second video game crash at the time due to market oversaturation.
>>
>>12278910
No.
>>
>>12279032
the transitional period in the mid 90s was the peak of that complete smorgasbord of different platforms available. You had all the new next-gen CD stuff, 16bit still kicking strong, add-ons like the Sega CD, multiple hand-helds, 8-bit stuff from the 80s as the legacy budget options still on shelves, LCD games, multimedia PC gaming, Amiga and Macintosh, arcades still alive, weird jap imports and bizarre stuff like the Pippin and Super A'can. And actual retro gaming at the time being pre-nes stuff that was cheap as fuck second hand.

better than the 2600
>>
>>12279258
It was a great time for sure, but as someone who basically went from the NES > Gameboy > SNES, all other consoles had a weirdness to them. They didn't offer the quality or type of games the SNES could do, or if they did it was outrageously expensive.

Correct, but thanks for reminding me about you. You know how feeble us "Boomers" are.
