What's the weirdest way you've played a retro videogame?
>>
>>12277824
that game but by intermittent highway lamp illumination

Baaaaaased
>>
not exactly retro, but i had a weird setup to play hgss
i really wanted to play it on my vita (i had no 3ds), but there was no native emulator
first i setup i think it was desmume back then on my pc, then i installed pspdisp via adrenaline, basically a way to control my pc remotely via the built in psp emulator
then i had to install yet another program on my pc to actually recognize the buttons i was pressing into inputs desmume could understand

all of this bullshit just to play pokemon soulsilver in bed because my pc back then had been moved to the living room, with all the wifi streaming lag you can probably imagine
it was fun honestly

Doom on GBA - honestly very fun and well optimized
Civ 2 on PSP via PS1 emulator - loved it and got me into Civ 4 eventually. It is held down by dumb and cheating AI as well as only 2 victory conditions but otherwise was great.

Played through most of Adventure Island 4 when i worked at a mall. During my breaks, there was a dude with a stand selling chink famiclones that i would go play the demo unit at and write down my passwords to resume the next day. I eventually reached a point that required button mashing and no matter what i did, i could not pass it. I tested some other built in games and determined it just wasn't capable of reading multiple rapid inputs like that, so I had to stop there.

Your strength in those mini games depends on your fruit level. Go in with 8 fruits and they're very easy. Grab one more fruit to restore HP, you'll go in with 0 fruit and it'll be impossible.

Got 120 stars in Mario 64 using Project 64 running inside of VMWare running on macOS 10.6 back in the old days.

I emulate Commodore 64 games on my phone, its a terrible way to play but it werks

Playing Doom on a Sansa Clip Zip running RockBox.
>>
>>12277824
I played some of Catrap and Pokemon Silver on an old J2ME flip phone. They both ran like a slideshow, but they were mostly bearable given they don't have any realtime action. Sure as hell wouldn't want to play Super Mario Land on there.

Ff1 and 2 on a blackberry

Doom on a Ti-nspire graphing calculator

Not really weird since we all did it but Tetris on the TI-83 calculator.

I played these games for the first time emulating on a 3DS:
>Policenauts
>Parasite Eve
>Megaman Legends
>Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
>>
>>12277959
Yeah believe me i tried all that the moment i figured it wasn't tied to me sucking. I distinctly remember checking a faq online to see if it was supposed to be hard and i learned about the strength stuff and everything told me it should be easy, but it just wouldn't register every input. It was definitely something with the controller because track n field was also on it and you could not do any event that required rapid presses to any degree of success.

Also played Contra Force for the first time via that mall kiosk and it grew on me.

>>12278017
I don't remember the exact year, but it was not as long ago as one would expect. This was at a time where these clones could run more than the earliest famicom titles, which was the most common scenario for a while.

I think everyone that bothered to install rockbox got it running but never even passed a single level
It is just funny doom running on that impossible display, and what's funny is that a static screenshot is just noisy nonsense but it immediately works with movement

>>
>>12278970
if you beat it on a fucking ipod of all things, you have the right to tell those with a genesis controller that they didn't beat the game
>>
>>12277824
I once used an overhead projector, Nomad with pad and stereo out to old amp combo at school.
>>
Time Crisis on a tablet touchscreen. Fucking fun, you need a bigass onscreen duck/reload button at the side but honestly a decent standin for the kind of instant shots you can't make with a mouse. I remember doing it on some android EPSXE but probably doable on anything these days.

Elemental Gearbolt/Horned Owl worked great too.

For me, it's playing Sonic the Hedgehog while my parents are driving me around, looking out the window and and making him run and jump from car to car parked on the side of the road and running on electricity cables jumping the lightpoles

Ironically I hated Sonic Adventure when it came out and made my imagination real
>>
>>12279979

I played like 75% of final fantasy 6 on PS2's Snes emulator. I was dented enough not to realize the game was running possibly 50% slower, maybe not as much, maybe 40 or 33, but real fucking slow. When I went to youtube and listen to the music did I realize of how braindead I was. Luckily I was able to transfer the save to another emulator on the PC and it worked.

Also I loved that retarded intro music
