How small could the ps2 have been if it didnt come with a useless hard drive bay and had an external psu?
>>
>>12278476
They made one, it's typically referred to as the PS2 Slim
>>
>>12278476
>useless
you were supposed to put weed in it

About this small.
>>
what an embarassing thread
>>
>>12278476
External power supply takes up more space by sheer virtue of being external

I got one of these fuckers, but the laser broke. Firs l thought it was just some dust in the pin that confirms the lid is closed, but it really seems to be the laser. Some PS1 games work, but most PS2 games won't.

The laser is really easy to replace with a chinese aliexpress part. I did it.
>>
>>12278637
Cry about it
>>
>>12278496
Instead of making it long and flat why didn't they just stack all the components vertically, it could have been a cube you can game on.
>>
>>12278789
I think there is a model like this or its a bootleg shell
>>
>>12278789
because cubes are tvs and rectangles are devices
>>
>>12278789
having less vertical height is preferable. The gamecube is fucking annoying to include in a media setup because it's height (especially with the gameboy player) makes it awkward to fit in most media console shelves. Even ones where it can fit, you can't open the lid and have room to put a disc in. So it just has to awkwardly sit on top of something, or on the TV, or on the floor in front.
>>
>>12278924
It is only preferable to autistics. A cube/rectangle like the Xbox Series X is the best it can be for cooling and all consoles should follow the design to keep fan noise and temps down

the original ps2 was built in such a way to be able to stack things on top of it, like a VCR
the slim ps2 was designed so that you could fit it in tight spaces if you wanted to
the gamecube honestly achieves neither, it's not wide enough to hold things on top and it's not thin enough that you can just fit it wherever
it's mildly cumbersome and basically needs its own space dedicated to it, not quite like a modern ps5 but still not ideal
i personally like it (i like all 6th gen consoles), but the ps2 revisions in their essential minimalism do kind of "fit" anywhere as essential, even (if you forgive the term) load bearing components of your room
it kind of feels like a true successor to the NES in its design language, unlike the the snes and n64 which are kind of ruined by their more chaotic designs
i don't really love the wii for several reasons but it does also fill this need for things to be able to stack on top of each other i guess
those simplistic, even brutalistic consoles which are essentially plastic rectangles really stood the test of time aesthetically, because their appearance is dictated by fundamental logistics of the rooms they will inhabit

by comparison, one of the worst offenders in exterior design (after the ps5 of course) was the atari xegs.
it was designed to look futuristic for the sake of looking futuristic
none of its design language has practicality behind it
it's a mess, and an ugly one at that
>>
>>12278956
xbox's shape was fine since it was comparable to a VCR and had a front-loading tray mechanism. Fit just fine in entertainment console shelves. The height issue is with tall cubes with top-loading
>>
>>12279039
how silly of them to put the disc tray on top.
everyone knows that's where you put your coffee mug
>>
>>12278504
Yeah but now I have came up with I a new name for these Nintendo stinkers the wiibuh haha getit

The PS2 9000 was more impressive, being almost as small as the slim despite putting the power supply back inside the console.
>>
>>12279047
is this english

time to start booting from usb, bucko
>>
AS SMALL AS THE SLIM MODEL THAT LAUNCHED 4 YEARS LATER PERHAPS
>>
>>12279093
Is this model soft moddable yet?
>>
>>12279416
Yeah opentuna still works on any PS2. There's zero possibility of FMCB working on patched 90ks though.
>>
>>12278476
It could have been a slim as the PS2 small.
>>
>>12278484
That's exactly what I used it for. Sony knew their customers.
>>
>>12278637
I know there's at least one revision of the slim that is guaranteed to chew through discs for no reason other than to fuck you over
>>
>>12278789
I'd imagine they'd want to avoid making their console resemble Nintendo's
