This game is more hallway walking simulator than FF13.

Castlevania 64/LoD was a better game IMO. Better level structure and felt more like a Castlevania than CoD which feels more like a low rent DMC.

Does it get better /v/ or is this all this game is? A Pokemon hallway walking simulator?

What's the consensus on this and Lament of Innocence anyway? I see these games discussed once in a blue moon.

I played this and Lament in 2024 for the first time. I really liked Lament, but the levels felt a bit blant. Curse spiced up the level design (some levels really look gorgeous) and I'm I personally like 3rd person camera way more than 1st person. The soundtrack was also really good. Combat felt about the same, only that you have a little bit of choice what weapon you wanna carry. Towards the end I felt like the story was really starting to drag and I didn't really enjoy the last few levels until the final boss for that reason. The boss fight itself though was kino. I recommend playing it if you have already played Lament.
With all that being said, I also think 64 and LoD hold up better and are generally more fun.

You later arrive in a town, and it still is a corridor simulator somehow. Only keep treading if you enjoy the combat.

I don't know what that consensus is (SotN's fags tent to overrate some of Iga's produced slop), but both are generic hack-and-slash dungeon grinders that bear zero resemblance to the action-platformer franchise it takes its name from, with and a handful of good bosses and music.

The combat is hit or miss honestly. The dodge requiring 3 button presses is a major drawback for me. Even DMC had already perfected the whole 1 button dodge thing by this time. It just kinda feels like they didn't play this before releasing it.

I like Lament of Innocence, it's a little more challenging and it's short and sweet. CoD becomes quite a slog, the areas are way too big, the only thing keeping you going is the awesome music.
