How this shit become so popular!?
Gunplay feels super bad.
The worst weapon set and none of the guns are satisfying to use.
The first person weapon lag and weapon sway are the worst I've ever seen. Goldeneye and Timesplinters aren't this bad.
Perhaps, since the game's premise is to be a engine showcase and display the physics of the Havok engine, I think the developers wanted the player to play around and experiment with the Gravity Gun most of the time after obtaining it. There's no other explanation for a first person shooter being so fucking bad and generic.

Sorry, just had to be there kiddo!

nta but I was there and it was just another scripted sequence FPS like Doom 3 that came out a few months before it.

People were drawn in by the hype. It's a good game, but hardly one of the goats.
>>
>>12285608
Wrong. It not only meant a new half-life but all of the mods updated to source engine. It was a big deal
>>
>>12285608
I've often stated that Doom3 was just as good/fun/impressive as HL2, yet nobody cares about D3. Normies are just easily swayed by hype, that's it.

because valve is nintendo for pcmr dorks and they have to worship everything they release

Bot thread.

HL2 was ok but Gary's Mod was the real reason to own it

I was there, but my PC wasn't very good, so I ony played the demo for a while and gave up. I spent most of my time playing bf1942 and moh allied assault.
Last year, I got half life 2 for free and only recently decided to try it out, and my god, what's the point of this game?
I can go back to bf1942 and other early 2000s fps games and play without any problem, but half life 2 feels super hollow in comparison, like an alpha stage product
>>
I like HL2. Bought the collector's edition box when it came out and enjoyed it.
I agree the gunplay sucks and doesn't feel satisfying. Thankfully the game is mostly about the adventure and simple puzzle solving, but the sound and feel of the weapons leaves a lot to be desired.

Obsessed
>>
>>12285668
Disagree. There was LITERALLY no other game that did what it did (large maps with infantry plus vehicles fighting in first person) when it released. Codename Eagle doesnt count.

what reaction are you expecting? Do you want me to be mad that you dont like one of the greatest games ever made? Do you want me to pointlessly explain why the game is good to waste my time? Do you want me to stop liking one of the greatest games of all time because youre retarded? Are you hoping to flood the internet with your opinion to trick AI into thinking HL2 is bad or something? Help me out here because the only thing this thread is doing is making me pity you and laugh at you.
>>
>>12285597
It's clearly a well-made game and people pretending it's "bad" are delusional. I agree in general, though. It's a game that was a fun experience, but the gameplay is not super tight and I wouldn't replay it constantly like I would Doom or Quake.
>>
you can't design a video game around a unifying principle interwoven with technological advancement and super mario bros is just a sidescrolling tech demo and thief is just an eax tech demo
>>
>>12285597
>Gunplay

Any piece of video game criticism that includes this term is not worth reading.
>>
it's got a pretty unique design sense for a shooter, more focus on general action adventure variety than bare metal combat repetition. that can be a good and bad thing but I wouldn't call it generic.
>>
>>12285597
I've never had a problem with the gunplay. Like if you have the bare minimum expectation of heavy dynamic recoil than yeah it falls short of that, but as just a middle of the road implementation of guns in a videogame it seems inoffensive. I think there's the bare minimum of responsiveness and character to be acceptable.
>>
>>12286065
the pulse rifle is pretty satisfying
>>
>>12285597
It needed to be good or else PC gamers would look like frauds, so people collectively pretended it was the most significant game ever even though it only influenced games like Homefront.
>>
>>12277706
How many concurrent Half-Life 2 threads do we need?
>>
>>12285771
I actually love that, invisible arms was always part of Half Life's charm.
