I've never made a real game before. If you've made a complete project, that's something to be proud of. I hope you get some positive attention, and maybe even get to put it on your resume to get into the gaming industry or something.

That being said, my kneejerk reaction to seeing a point and click mouse game where I can't use the mouse to do my point and clicking seems dumb to me.

Like I know the NES version of Maniac Mansion and Shadowgate and Deja Vu are more famous and iconic than any of their PC versions due to their place in history, and the fact that at that point in time NES machines were more common than Apple II's or Commodore's or whatever the fuck, but in the current age, where I know you used a computer to make this game, it seems silly that you chose to use a computer (with mouse and keyboard) to create a point and click which fails to use the mouse and keyboard.

And why is this done? I'm vaguely aware that there are gameboy kits that make developing homebrews on the gameboy easier than they may have been a few years ago.

Again, you actually made a game. You followed your dreams. I'm a faggot who's never made anything, so I've got no right to rain on your parade, but if I can offer unsolicited constructive criticism, maybe use an engine suited for what your making. I don't know if there's a point and click gaming engine. ChatGPT recommends "Visionaire Studio." I don't know if that's actually any good or not.

Anyway, good job. Hope you don't get upset by this post. I hope lots of people play it and enjoy it. The game's probably great.

t. 5 Days A Stranger lover.
>>
>>12292241
lmao I understand completely, it is a baffling choice especially from the view of a PC point and click enjoyer.
I haven't played many PC point and clicks and I honestly wouldn't even call myself a fan of the genre. (I did enjoy I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream quite a lot though)
I do really like the GBC port of Deja Vu though, it has a lot of personality and charm to it. I adored Shadowrun (SNES) which used controller point and click controls. The inherent nature of using point and click controls on a controller is a bit awkward, but I did try to include QoL features to make navigation easier.
I guess you could call this a subversion of the point and click genre if you wanna get pretentious about it lmao
I would ask that you put aside your expectations and give it try!

A fellow by the name of Nightcrawler got buttblasted by his tranny mods, so he announced the end of RHDN and the beginning of neoRHDN. However, the owner of neoRHDN was secretly in league with XYkeeper and shut down his site to support the tranny mods. Nightcrawler was taken aback by this turn of events and vowed to keep the LGBTQP community to himself. After banning members who dared to question his erratic decisions, he erected a new set of rules banning mention of any other hack site.

The second site, neoromhacking.net, was intended as the "legitimate" successor to the first site at one point. They later shut most things down (other than the forum), then posted some message about supporting a newer site owned by ex-RHDN staff (RHDI). The original RHDN owner, Nightcrawler, has been too arrogant to talk to active hackers for quite some time. He pretty much keeps his site open now to spite any and all competitors.

For some reason he acts like he invented rom hacking and perfected moral philosophy. Despite the hobby never being squeaky clean from a legal standpoint. And there were plenty of sites before his.

How would I go about mapping a game? I just realized one of my favorite games isn't feature on vgmaps.com and I would like to remedy that. But how? Do I just play the game taking a bunch of screenshots and then stitch them together on paint?

I even made a simple script to snap the character position to the mouse although as you can see it's very buggy. I think I was trying to make it "scroll naturally" so the game properly loads the next area.
>>
>>12300647
>Do I just play the game taking a bunch of screenshots and then stitch them together on paint?
That's one way to do it. You could also further develop your lua script to automate away the playing, screenshotting and image stitching. Alternatively you can figure out where in the ROM the level data is and how it's structured, and write a program to dump it as images.
>>
>>12298358
Except, have you sit down and played ANY of the games developed there? on a good emulator and see how they perform?

look, i will share you the games i have on my library ok, test em, and come back and try to counterpoint.

https://files.catbox.moe/za5xmx.rar

It includes some paid games, and right off the bat, only 4 games or so has good to stable performance, and dont come off with a cheeky WERKS4MII nonsense.

>>12291615

>>12300647
I've mapped a dozen or so games in the past and posted them on vgmaps. The way I always did it was by extracting the maps directly from the ROM. You can also do what most people do and stitch together screenshots, but where's the fun in that?
>>
File: marioMap.webm (3.8 MB, 1280x720)

>>12300647
There are a lot of ways of going about this, and none of them are more correct than the others. If you're going the screenshot route, I'd recommend taking your screenshots from the tilemap viewer rather than from the regular game output. When trying to stitch together regular game screenshots, adjusting the tiles to have pixel perfect alignment can be cumbersome due to scrolling. The tiles in tilemap viewer don't move after they are written, so aligning everything is extremely easy. Moreover, this varies from game to game, but generally you can set a write breakpoint on a tile on the far end of the tilemap opposite the direction the screen is scrolling to have the emulator pause for you when it's time to take the next screenshot. Picrel is a very slapdash example, but it gets the point across.

Taking screenshots from the tilemap means you'll have to re-add sprites manually, but you were probably going to have to do that anyway to account for them moving around.

There's some other tricks I recommend to make your life easier. Animated tiles (such as the blinking ? blocks in Super Mario Bros.) pose a problem in that you want them to be on the same frame of animation in every screenshot. The easiest way to handle this is to find the code that controls the animated tiles and NOP it so their animation stops. Similarly, you can find the code that controls enemy movement and NOP that out to make finding the exact spawn position of every sprite easier.

Thank you for your input. I don't think I have the expertise to automate this or to hunt 6502 assembly to find what I'm looking for. However after seeing your example I did this trial run where I scroll (manually playing the game, no scripts) through the stage until one I get one full tile map. In this case I got four different sections which I concatenated with ffmpeg like so

ffmpeg -i stage01_01.png -i stage01_02.png -i stage01_03.png -i stage01_04.png -filter_complex "hstack=4[s];[s]crop=iw:ih/2:0:0" stage01.png

In the same operation I cropped the lower half since that's just repeated from the top half. So this is the result, pic related. I think it came out nice except I have to go back and delete the life bar from the top, I'll see if I can disable the rendering of the hud. I will also have to do some tests on the vertically scrolling maps... I'll look into it later.

GM = Game Maker.
He is saying that it's as Game Maker mockup, not a real SNES game.

The dev said he's going to drop a demo though, so maybe it isn't fake at all.

I'm not lying.
Modification was done by HAM, from Metroid Construction forum.

Here, download the "XF improvements" IPS, then apply it on the X-Fusion 1.2 hack :

The thread at MetConst BTW :

Apologies for being late here anons, I was busy with work.

I should say that there are more patches than only the ledge grab, there are also sound improvements and some shinespark additions.
>>
For the anons that asked about the ledge grab in X-Fusion, here it is a screenshot of the game.

And also a video if you want to see it in action:

I hope you guys have fun with the hack :)

Dunno if there's any N64 modders or homebrew devs about, or if anyone would even use this, but a few months ago I made an open source Stop 'n' Swop hookup for N64 homebrews and ROM Hacks.
I also built a sample ROM that lets you send/receive SNS Data from Banjo-Kazooie. It works on vanilla BK carts and a few flash carts I tried out, but I can't confirm if it works on all of 'em. It also lets you make your own SNS items, not just the BK ones.
https://github.com/AdamRVierra/stop-n-swop-toolkit/
Not sure if anyone used it for their projects yet, but let me know if I fucked up anything.
Here's someone trying it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_f0uMBRyt0
