I honestly miss that period in the mid to late 2000s where you had neat gritty photographs like this be the boxart for your game, nowadays they'd do it all in CG and it looks too clean and fake, or have some worse ass filter that makes it look that way.
>>
>>12294771
>Venture bros was much less popular
It was still really popular, but it was also much more expensive to make, which is the real reason they had to sorta semi-cancel it after season 7. Head of Adult Swim hated doing it, but the parent company had lost a ton of money (some of the losses due to covid, some I suspect due to financial retardation) handed AS like $200 and said "here's your budget, bro, hope you didn't want to make anything but cheap live-action"
>>
>>12294716
Brock would make a great protagonist for a hack n slash/beat em up. Would be totally accurate to the show to have him fight against trillions of enemies and win.
>>
>>12294592
I love ATHF and people online say they love it, but I have never in my life met another person who watched it. No one has any idea what I'm talking about, ever. 20 years of referencing it, not one has any memory of this show. I owned all the seasons on DVD until they got stolen from my apartment by a swarthy lad.

I've met plenty of people who love ATHF, have even seen people with ATHF shirts in public. That (and maybe Robot Chicken) was Adult Swim's cash cow before Rick & Morty and now Smiling Friends. Now, stuff like Sealab 2021, Stroker & Hoop, Frisky Dingo, Drinky Crow Show, Tom Goes to the Mayor, 12oz Mouse, Lucy Daughter of the Devil, Perfect Hair Forever... I've never personally met any fellow fans of those.

Criminally underrated, like a Saturday morning cartoon written by a drunken David Lynch and illustrated by a kid with a box of crayons and some old illustration cutouts. Never seen another show use a comedic pause more effectively. Or often, for that matter.

I thought this show was retarded slop when it came out and I always changed the channel or turned the tv off when it was on. out of curiosity I’ve been trying to give it a chance this week and am half way or so through season 3. Xan someone explain the show for me? I’m trying to figure out what it was that made it so popular. Did it get better later? was there just nothing better on late at night? It has some funny moments here and there but the show has way too many boring parts where nothing happens, and shake who is a main character is too unlikable imo.

btw each episode is like 10 minutes long, did they just play two back to back? Or did they pair it with another show that was short? Been too many years I can’t remember.
>>
>>12298278
It's hilarious. If you're not laughing your ass off at the mummy episode or the south bronx paradise episode, it's just not for you.

CUUURRRSE
>>
>>12298278
Best advice I can offer is don't view ATHF as a cartoon and don't expect typical cartoon things from it. Almost all of the appeal is from the dialogue.
>>
>>12298286
It has funny moments for sure but I think so far there has only been one or two where I laughed out loud instead of just being mildly amused. why does the show have so much hip hop or rap related stuff in it? are the creators friends with the guy who wrote the main song? Or just fans? Or was that just the cheapest person they could hire to make them music?

it’s a bizarre show and I’m more interested in understanding how it turned out the way it did than i am to finish all 10 seasons or whatever.

Like what is Carls story? What is the inspiration for Carl? Why New Jersey? What is the inspiration for dr weird? why are the moonites 8 bit? why do those Spikey aliens have German accents?

I never cared for ATHF, preferred stuff like The Brak Show, Home Movies, Sealab 2021. Venture Bros is the best thing Adult Swim ever produced.

>>12298278
It feels like a stoner show by stoners who had to make an 11 minute show but had no idea what to do with it. Everyone sounds as bored as you are watching it. Something like Xavier Renegade Angel is far funnier and just as absurd.

Op here I’m on season 4 right now of ATHF and I did enjoy the boost mobile episode, I think a lot of athf episodes just are lacking an interesting premise and lean too hard into being schizophrenic and nonsensical.

looks like you guys are talking about sealab, that’s another one of those shows I didn’t “get” but I’d like to give it a chance as an adult. When adult swim came out I was still in grade school and most of the early shows were still running into the start of HS for me where I had less of an attention span and most jokes went over my head.

Idk if I’m going to like this stuff much more but I do feel that I enjoy ATHF more now compared to when I was a kid, however I’m not sure if much of that is nostalgia just watching things from when I was younger.

my single sealab memory I have I can still recall is going with my dad and younger brother to burger king back in like 2004 or so, and my dad and I eating while mu younger brother was crawling afound in the play area. The staff neglected to shut the tv off when it switched from Cartoon Network to adult swim, and I remember laughing a lot at the absurdity of watching adult swim in the BK play area since it really isn’t an appropriate setting for it. Must have been late I guess surprised they were even open.

Personally I remember being more of a Harvey bird man fan back then wouldn’t mind watching that again.

I could kind of understand calling ATHF written for white trash. A lot of its characters and episodes deal with things only relevent for low income Americans, typically white ones. If you live in a society where you don't interface with poor people stuck in a sort of rut where their only escapes are football, hookers, and cheap food, it might fall flat.
>>
>>12307469
To be fair, I'm kind of upset this kind of targeted humor has gone away. Nowadays, things have to be made for international audiences, so only the most bland, universal humor can be had. It's rare to get a show that specifically targets a single country or even just a single demographic within a country beyond stuff like direct to TV movies on Hallmark or something.
