Do you believe it's possible for someone to not enjoy this game?I already like racing games so I've got no way of judging that (to me it's just a very good racing game).
>>12302782I 100% Burnout 3 on Xbox like 5 months ago after finishing all the racing related events a few years ago. All I had left were the crash events and takedown trophy stuff, and both sucked ass. I remember liking the crash events more as a kid, but now they're just a piss easy slog, and the signature takedown license bullshit was all super circumstantial stuff that required searching up specific events to pull off, like the 2 bus takedowns and trams. I enjoy the game, but I could see someone hating it if they go for 100%
>>12302795I actually consider Burnout 3's Crash Mode the worst interpretation, particularly when the x4 multiplier is introduced. That said I don't count Showtime as a form of Crash Mode.
>>12302782I can see it if it's just a loose subjective preference. like the above anon said the non racing events can drag and if all you want is some light no nonsense racing then there's going to be quite a bit of crap getting in the way of that. if what you really want js just need for speed 2 burnout 3 might leave you cold.
>>12302782For me even Burnout Dominator is not that bad when I compare it to games from 2025
>>12302892Treating Burnout Dominator as an also-ran is an insult. It's a B-team game but in some ways I actually think it's better than Burnout Revenge.
>>12302782I could care less about racing. But I enjoy Burnout games because you can kill and destroy your opponents.I would never play a racing game where you can't kill your enemies.
>>12302782can you turn the crash cam off? I don't like games that take control away from the player
>>12302932Yes
>>12302782Godddamn I love Burnout so much. There's no telling how many hours I have between 3 and Revenge.
I prefer "racing with combat" to "combat racing". By Revenge smashing opponents felt more important than actually racing and I just want to kick opponents out of the way so I can take their spot, not because making them crash is the main focus. But losers like >>12302926 probably thought Burnout 2 was shit and that ain't right.
It's a pretty darn near perfect game.
>>12302782I don't care for the crash events, which is fine. There's lots of other stuff to enjoy in the game.
>>12302898Dominator was definitely better racing game than wreckreation which somehow lost the style and atmosphere of burnout games
>>12303137The most defining aspect of Burnout to me is the control so if they got that down it would probably be worth a look.
I personally don't like it, never got into its way to show destruction, I ended preferring Split/Second (not retro). I prefer more normal racers.
I hate how you can't talk about the *other* game in the series anymore.
>>12303485The one not allowed on this board or the smiling friends one?
>>12303556>smiling friendsoh no here they come
>>12303485People in general can't shut the fuck up about Burnout Paradise
>>12302782It's a racing game for people who don't like racing games
>>12302782burnout is great, was fun to watch too so it made it a lot more fun to play with friends or take turns
>>12304358It's funny, because I'm not particularly a racing game enjoyer, and still I have more fun with other racer games, except Burnout.
>>12304358There might be some truth to that statement. I'm not big on normal racing games, but Burnout 3 and Carmageddon are two of my all-time favorite games in general.
>>12302782The core gameplay is extremely good but the main thing stopping me from liking it a lot more is just the flow of the events in career mode. A lot of events are very short so you end up starting an event, completing it very fast, loading screen, map, pick another one, loading screen, repeat. It's very stoppy starty and I think the game could be improved a ton if the events were just longer, like in Gran Turismo or something where you can be in a race for quite a bit and get a sense of flow going.
>>12302782fucking loved this game as a kid
I once played it with a friend who was into racing games in the mid 2000's and didnt like it because he said he enjoyed racing and saving seconds each lap, not making the opponents just crash to win the race.
>flatout for brainless console mutts
>>12306501racing games are brainless
>>12306508only the ones you play
>>12306501What is that even supposed to mean
>>12302782The computer AI cheats in this game, It's too frustrating for me.
>>12306501What do you like more about Flatout? Only thing it has on Burnout is the awesome ragdoll corpse of your player.
>>12306501FlatOut is a SHIT series. Not even worth comparing.
i gave it 2 stars on backlog last year so yea, me. Racing games are my top 3 genre btw
>>12306634First two flatouts are good.
>>12306501>things I don't like or are popular = brown, indian, thirdie...The poltards who are overlapping with /vr/ are ruining the board.
>>12302782It is possible, but I've not seen it around me. I remember introducing it to two of my friends who aren't into racing games, but they too made an exception for the game. I still remember passing the controller around clearing all the events, and the time just melted away without us realizing the sun has risen. Even the spectacle of watching the game is amusing enough, so for someone to not enjoy the game they really must not enjoy games at all, I suppose.
>>12304358>it's a racing game for people who don't like racing gamesFlatout 2 is a better example of it, because in Burnout you could take your opponents out, but they will quickly respawn, so you still have to outrun them, but in Flatout 2 you could win by just destroying every other car and you even get great monetary bonus for that compared to clean wins, plus there are stunts and demolition derby modes with no racing
People like different things, what can I say.
I heard that this series was good, so I started with the first game. The game only costing $5 at the local retro game store should have been a hint as to it's quality. Is the consensus that the first game is bad? Because I didn't like it at all. Do I need to jump to a later game in the series?
>>12302782It's very enjoyable, but it's also extremely easy and constantly sucks your dick and injects dopamine into you and rewards you with things constantly. It's one of my favorite games ever, but I can see someone finding it to be too casual and rolling their eyes over how easy unlocking stuff is. Me and that guy wouldn't get on.
>>12308764>Is the consensus that the first game is bad? Because I didn't like it at all.The first game is arcade style and quite punishing, which makes it good, since it nicely contrasts the quite easy 2 and piss easy 3 and Revenge.
>>12306568It honestly has some of the worst AI/rubberbanding I have ever seen in a driving game (most notably when you get near end game), and the bloom in your face is horrendous at times too. Shame actually, because it has the makings of a top tier game.
>>12308764Most people including myself started with 3 which is the GOAT, but actually have the unique opportunity to try seriesp in order because 2 is a huge jump in quality and then there is gonna be another major improvment between 2 and 3
>>12308764First game was kind of getting its groove. I think the second game onwards really defined the style.
>>12309172>>12309196Good to know. I'll just skip the first and try 2 or 3 next. Burnout looks like something I'd enjoy, but that first game wasn't it.
I liked Burnout Revenge much more.
>>12302782Burnout is unlike Western racing games, which were more sim-like or went crazy in their design. The game takes its design from a Konami arcade racer.
For me, Burnout 2 is the best one in the series.
>>12310592Would've been kino if they had the balls to keep the faint screams and sirens sound effects.https://youtu.be/33QSkaDy5Nw
>>12310881I know there's Carmageddon but why was there never anything that went even to a Mortal Kombat level but with cars, like a game that had a crash mode but the people in the cars got squished, had limbs and guts and brains fly out etc? Wouldn't fit Burnout though.
I enjoy Burnout 1 but it definitely was kind of hit-or-miss with some of its track design. Gridlock USA is probably the best course due to its simplicity and allows the game to show off its best attributes (the really satisfying control that draws me to the series, although that too didn't really hit its stride until 2).
>>12311129There is a kart mode in MK Armageddon, it's not that brutal though
