Here's your 1999 game.
>>
Thanks
>>
a solid, underrated game that is also the only piece of castlevania media that the west got that properly transliterated the Fernandez clan name.
>>
>>12303627
It was rereleased for the Wikipedia??
>>
>>12303675
Clunky as shit, awful FPS, very bad map design. Fantastic music and graphics (for the time), interesting story. A noble attempt at 3dvania, more admirable nowadays since they've stagnated and are just endlessly recreating SOTN.
>>
>>12303683
Skull issue. Stop being bad at games
>>
>>12303627
It sucked back then and I tried playing it again last year, guess what? It's even worse now. This is one of those games that e-celebs have tricked zoomers into thinking is a "hidden gem".
>>
>>12303627
Thanks, I love it. Best thing that happened on N64.
>>
>>12303627
You know what, I'd take it over Iga's fanfiction. The premise that the entire Earth is engulfed in Dracula's war and that the saviors of the Earth are Mary Sue japs shrine people sounds utterly retarded.

Filtered.

worth it for the intro choon alone

>Castlevania Legacy Of Darkness

>JAP: December 25, 1999
>OBSESSED: March 3, 2000
No fuckin' way dude no wonder people shit on the 64 Castlevania games when fucking Crash and Tomb Raider came out in 96.
>>
they literally made this game full 3D, because Nintendo was damn mad that a 2D castlevania game on the playstation was outselling all their boring 3D action games, and they couldnt get a port because their console was absolute trash handling 2D graphics
serves them right, this game is just super clunky and not interesting at all
>>
Still better than the ps2 games

>whereas reinhardt is the one that's typically used asa first name, Schneider is a world-famous surname and not used as a first name, according to my research
>>
>>12306332
CV64 came out about two months after OoT. It's also entirely different from Crash and Tomb Raider.

>>12306341
They made this game because they were a different branch focused exclusively on N64 at the time and Game Boy. The result was a great game that not only btfos SotN, but was also one of the better games in its genre that generation.

Also, Kobe's Rakuga Kids alone destroys your fanfiction about the N64 being incapable of handling 2D graphics.

>>12306514
Reinhardt is a typical given name, while Schneider is a very common surname.

>The comic uses two examples of "unnatural" names in Japanese. The first is Ichiro Jiro, which is like having a first name for both your first and last name (e.g. "John Robert"). The second is Yamada Suzuki, which is like having two last names (e.g. "Smith Jones"). This is the core of the joke explaining why "Schneider Belmont" (with Schneider as the first name) and "Cornell Reinhardt" (with Reinhardt as the surname) sounded wrong to the developers once they researched it.

I remember having this game rented for me and I thought it completely sucked. I’m sure it still does

It's fun its just that there is no map, understandable if people got lost on the outside part of the castle.
>>
>>12309418
Do people really need a map for this game? The levels are generally easy to understand.
>>
I like how this game randomly uses the rondo boss music in a single end-game fight for no reason
>>
>>12303627
>look it up
>it's true
Holy kek, they must have struggled to bring Castlevania to 3D so hard. They were probably really proud of finishing it like 5 years later (it was still shit kek)
>>
>>12310069
They did Goemon 64 prior to this, you stupid bitch. Game as a whole had about a year of proper dev.

The joke is that this is your promised 1999 game as >>12305528 pointed out.
>>
>>12303675
It could have been great if it didn't fuck up so many times. Its equal parts fun and shitty to me/

It's uuuh, better than than Lord of Shadows 2 at least.

This thread inspired me to go back and give this game another shot. Back in the day I could never get into it because I didn't own a controller pak but now I'm emulating and actually making progress. Right now I'm at the nitro part which is pretty fucking annoying but not as bad as the awkward ass platforming that has killed me more times than any enemy or boss so far. Compared to other games from that time I don't think it's that great, I'd much rather play something like Soul Reaver than this but I'm committed to seeing the rest of the game. At least the OST is great.
>>
>>12312586
Just hold the A button while jumping to grab the ledges. The gameplay actually resembles a lot the classic Castlevanias up until Rondo and Bloodlines; you have to carefully plan your movement or you'll be punished.

Also, combat in CV64 gets better once you figure out that you can dodge by slightly tilting the stick + jump. Fighting enemies like vampires becomes much better when you do this. The gameplay also becomes more polished in LoD to the point that it is virtually fixed (no more "unwieldiness").

>Compared to other games from that time I don't think it's that great
CV64 was released in a moment where there where no conventions on this kind of gameplay. The main series of precision platforming with heavy jump commitment was Tomb Raider, which at the time of CV64 still used tank controls. The game also looks amazing.

>I'd much rather play something like Soul Reaver than this
Yikes.

>>12305528
not an argument
hardware limitation is not gameplay problem
>>
>>12307974
confession denied, newfag-sama
>>12309205
still not an argument, again 2d is still faster.
>>
>>12312759
What hardware limitation, you disingenuous faggot. The game plays great, with just vanilla CV64 being a bit rougher around the ages due to rushed development.
>>
>>12312762
>again 2d is still faster.
Nigger I prefer 2D stuff much more than your poser ass pretends to do, to the point that I see Mario 64 as a mistake. The difference is that SotN is an under-designed piece of garbage that doesn't even feel like Castlevania, whereas this actually tried and succeeded to some degree.
>>
>>12303683
You need to work on your critiques, specifically being consistent. One of the first things a writer learns is maintaining a consistent tense in writing.
>Clunky as shit, awful FPS
these are modern problems, anachronistic gripes. You cant judge an old game based on modern principles. Or you could but
>Fantastic music and graphics (for the time)
you cant then say the graphics were good for the time. Either the graphics suck and the gameplay sucks based on modern standards or the graphics were good and the gameplay was novel and unique with a standard fps for its time. Pick one.
>>
>>12303675
Bullshit
>>
>>12312764
10fps is not the standard, you indigenous sperg.
>>
>>12312770
imagine playing mario 64 with bubsy 3d tanky movement, or even resident evil ones, you emo autist.
>>
>>12312882
You got confused with PAL OoT or some shit, CV64 is actually 30 FPS with occasional drops.

>>12312887
Elaborate on your autism, Anon.
>>
>>12312895
Elaborate your racism then.
>>
>>12312901
Nigger can also mean lazy fuck.
>>
>>12312920
lazy fuck is nothe same as hardware incompetency, autist.
