>>12305242Yes, that's me. It's not even a debate between Mario Kart 2D and 3D. Screw Double Dash!! too, it barely has any content and the controls are terrible. There isn't a single good retro Mario Kart game. The series starts to get good on the DS. And the only good ones on home consoles are Wii and 8. Wii has a huge number of tracks and the controls are great. 8 improved on everything Wii had. Pic related is all that matters. Maybe add Mario Kart Arcade, I played it during my stay in Japan and it was fun.

I love SNES Mario Kart so much it's insane. I love the aesthetics, I love the pixels, I love the cozy low fi techniques (which are actually quite brilliant under the hood, good mode7 programmers were really on another level, shit isn't like modern opengl playskool programming today). It's so charming and fun and the courses are just right and I feel warm all over playing it.If you like the N64 one or later that's fine but I can't stand people who are like "hurr durr noo only the 3D ones are good", you Just Don't Get It.

>>12307067the tracks are more compact and turn heavy which feels appropriate for a kart racer, there's kind of a decent amount of dead air in 64, long wide straight aways where there's nothing to do unless you snake for boosts. also while it's still optimal to drift every turn you have more reason to drive through turns conventionally, without such a huge boost bonus and drifting requiring more finesse, feels less brain dead.
