>UT99 is the greatest FPS experience ever. I didnt say story, half life, halo, red faction and many others all have a better story, but mechanics wise and gameplay wise nothing tops UT99
I agree. My kids and I still play this on LAN. Perfectly balanced for fun
>>12307762>UT99>storywhat story? UT isn't Unreal
>>12307762It's a great shooter for LAN parties. Quake 3 is also great obviously but it's more for competitive playersUT99 is more fun for casual play
>>12307913I think there's a single player campaign, but that might be an urban legend
>>12307762No one plays FPS for the story and none of the ones you listed have particularly good ones so I don't see how that's relevant anyway.
>>12307762Who are you quoting? Yourself? That's weird, man.
>>12307978>No one plays FPS for the storyIt's first person, and you shoot
>>12307762Is it weird to think that UT99 is better than 2k4, but still like 2k4 more?
>>12308021If you like shit that sucks it makes sense to feel that way
>>12307762Xan kicked my ass worse than any other boss. I was about to rage quit desu
>>12308021I don't think it's weird, I'm on the same page as you. UT99 is better balanced and all that good shit, but I love 2K4 anyway.
>>12308070Xan has a unique rubber banding AI mechanism. All you have to do is let him kill you several times, then he'll be a lot easier to kill for the rest of the match
I only played the demo.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQRyL9BM50s
>>12307762Kick ass soundtrack
>>12308085>>123080212k4 is the better playing game, plus new engine etc, but UT99 is unparalleled in its art style and music, 2k4 is too clean, too "arena shooter as a sports league", and its weapons lack the "industrial tools made into proper tournament weapons" that ut99 had
Mogged by quake 3
>>12307913UT99 has a plot about miners fighting in tournaments for the entertainment of masses.
>>12307762mechanics wise it's just a pvp aim trainer and 2k4 is even worse in that regard
The music was really good. >favorite level, besides ctf-faceFor me its phobos
>>12308923
>>12307762Quake III is simply the better game, but there's room for more than one arena shooter in the world.
>>12308869shitscan wars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDhIm_rZ1PU
>>12308978I cant thing of a single way its better. How do you think it is.
>>12307858This warms my heart anon.I love this game and miss all the crazy mods people made. I loved the voice packs, I had a Sean Connery from Saturday night live jeopardy that people always laughed at Start match : THE DAY IS MINE!
I still regularly listen to the UT99 soundtrack. I miss the tracker era music of game soundtracks and this shit takes me straight back to 1999.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwqb-dIEvM4
I use to love playing against the bots on Dreamcast and recently emulated it to remember, the guns were fun and the great like shit talk quips
It’s the only fps I ever played that had competent bots that didn’t feel like hacks
>>12307762Tech demo the series
>>12307762my favorite FPS and about the only one i give a fuck about besides classic doom
>>12309771>used the engine from a game released the year before Excuse me?
>>12309772Sad
>>12309772Kek same.
That's funny, I played hundreds of hours of UT and still have no opinion about it other than "yeah that was a game I played"I feel more passionate about Counter-Strike, and I don't feel passionate about Counter-Strike
>>12308483I mean yeah. That was kinda the point they were going for, which is part of why I said UT99 is better but I like 2k4 more. Its very much a preference thing, even down to the stuff like vehicles and bombing run. More games need shit like bombing run imo.
>>12310054You sound autistic
>>12309771>implying that wasn't both of the major AFPS' series>implying that's a bad thing
>>12310067luckily they have all the UT99 maps converted as-is into 2k4 maps, and even a recreation of all the ut99 weapons too, so you could basically play ut99 in 2k4's engine
>>12310291I fucking love when mod communities get their shit together, especially when it comes to combining the strengths of games across a series.
>>12308162>>12308070For me it was taking advantage of how cramped DM-HyperBlast actually is; you lead him around into a tight corner (mostly below, near the FC and BR spawn corners) while loading rockets with the RL's alt-fire, throw them and watch him trip on them for an easy frag. Keep at it while controlling powerups/armor and you'll win easily. That last ladder with his androids was harder for me, to be honest.
>>12307762and its free and still has users playing it. early tactical ops before assault on terror was released is also available to download. the games of my childhood along with deus ex, diablo and broodwars

>>12307762Not only are UT 99 and 2004 better than Quake 3 but they were always more skill based. Quake its slip-slidey ass movement where UT has its unique weapon roster, actual movement mechanisms besides JUMP FAST, and so many better maps that didn't akin to SPAM ROCKETS AND NADES AROUND CORNERS. It's a shame of the 2 Quake is still alive bit to be fair, Quake MP players have always been unga bunga tards.
>>12308923Hall of Giants and Coret where my jams for CTFDM obvious choice is MorpheusBest Assault map was that underwater one IMO
>>12310453Anyone who likes ut99 hates epic
>>12310657slavshit wars
>>12308021Same with me. '99 is a faster game but '04 grew on me with its freedom of movement, the Bombing Run, Domination getting more intense with only two points to control, all the very few but great Assault missions and more.Seriously. Sidetap + midair jump, slope climbing being a feature in most maps and jumping off walls with double tap gives me such a sense of mobility I don't get from the original UT.
>>12312131All of thise things made it hard for me to process hence why I prefer 99, maybe I have a smooth brain.
Don't compare this garbage to Half Life
>>12308021I bounce back and forth between playing both pretty regularly. UT99 is just a lot more satisfying for Deathmatch. But UT2k4 is a lot more fun for CTF and the novelty of vehicles.I end up playing much longer binge sessions in UT99 though.
>>12312473>the novelty of vehicles.Raptors and shooting down Raptors with the Goliath in 2k4 was the fucking tits
>>12312386It's all optional and not that hard once you get the hang of it:-You can dogde to the a side while turning in the opposite direction to get a quick leap. It's pretty much the bunnyhopping motion without pressing Jump. You can do the same with forward but the double tap makes you stop, unless you're strafing.-To close big gaps, you do the mentioned move and press jump at the end to extend your time in the air. There's a couple of powerups you can get in the early SP DM ladder like this without [weapon]jumping or running over half the map.-You climb the many steep ramps in maps by dodging/double tapping towards the ramp, almost touching it. It will shoot you upwards and it can work as a shortcut.
>>12307762The mod scene for this game was unlike anything ever seen.
>>12308021ut99 has soul, but ut2k4 mogs it in content by miles
>>12310670>Coret10/10 fucking map, I played so many hours against bots and people on that map.>Running down the upstairs hallway, diving behind the corner to grab the armor>popping out right where the rocket launcher is, doubling back for the minigun+ammo or just heading forward past the ripper, heading to the side to pull the health vials before heading into the small CQC maze in the middle>punching right through the front door, running down the long hallway to the center of the enemy base and grabbing the flag>making that split second decision on if you escape back the way you came or head to higher ground and maybe grab an armor refill on the way outOf all the CTF maps, that map was the one that felt the most fair and balanced, and had the most chaos going on.
