For me it's Milon's Secret Castle. I like the presentation, the movement is ok enough, and I actually love how cryptic it is even though that's the usual complaint I see. The one thing that annoys me is how fast the enemies respawn. It makes the exploring tedious having to kill the same dumb little monster every 5 seconds. Would have been better if they only respawned by scrolling away from their original locations.
>>12307767For me? It's Spider-Man: TAS on SNES and Genesis... I loved the source material its based on, watched every time it came on, and the aesthetics on these titles are decent, mechanics too, they have lots going for it... but the poor controls and high difficulty makes it impossible to truly enjoy, if only this played like Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin, it's be perfect.
Mr. Bones
>>12308270y tho
>>12308756nta but the game is charming but full of jank (especially fmv mixed with gameplay) and many different types of gameplay. also the iceberg level is pretty famous for filtering everyone.
>>12307767Most grand strategy and 4x games, I've been trying to enjoy everything from Civ 2 to Anno to Hearts of Iron but the sheer amount of things you need to deal with and how a single bottleneck will collapse all of your momentum instantly just makes it impossible to enjoy.Doesn't help that most strategy games let the AI cheat in free resources.
>>12307767>I actually love how cryptic it is even though that's the usual complaint I see.Play Legacy of the Wizard and La-Mulana.
>>12307767Earthworm Jim 2. I really want to like it as much as the first game, but some of the minigames that you have to get through to beat it are retarded. Such as the "Puppy Love" levels.
>>12308828>most strategy games let the AI cheat in free resourcesI always found it interesting that WarCraft 2 doesn't do that. Killing peasants/peons is actually a good strategy. If a mission in Beyond the Dark Portal is giving you a hard time you can always play the waiting game and defend until they run out of gold.
>>12309240Which is good design.I will admit right now that AI in games is never perfect, and will sometimes need to cheat in order to abstract certain processes and tactics instead of simulating them, that's fine. If they get +1 stone from their stone quarries to simulate efficient pathing, placement, and other tricks that's perfectly fine. What is not fine is being given free resources out of thin air. Cutting off supply lines is one of the most effective and most ancient military stratagems of all.
>>12308814that just sounds like a hard game, I have a higher tolerance for jank than most tho
>>12307767Same but Legacy of the Wizard. Great idea for a wide, labyrinthine, secret-heavy game, but it's annoying not being able to stop and think for a couple seconds because shit keeps respawning. And if I recall it's even worse because you have limited magic.
