Do you still use your Dreamcast or do you emulate
>>
>>12308259
28 years have passed...
There's nothing left to experience on this console
>>
>>12308285
This tbqh. The Dreamcast doesn't have that many games to begin with, and many of those it does have are better on other platforms (like all the PC ports). It's not a library filled with hidden gems. I've played every Dreamcast game I care about to death at this point. Both of the consoles I have are in storage and I can't remember the last time I even emulated a Dreamcast game.

Those who only care about experiencing a game once is a media consumer, not a retro gamer. Anons who don't care to re-experience media don't appreciate it beyond a surface level and may as well be consuming their retro gaming content through longplay videos.
>>
>>12308259
What is the point of using a real console if you then using a shitty panel. Might as well just emulate at that point.
>>
I do both but a CRT is required
>>
>>12308285
>>12308317
Pretty much this but I get out the dreamcast every few years to replay something or play a new translation just because I like the hardware. Not many games
>>
>>12309026
>Can emulate at 480p glory
>Choose instead to play at 480i
>>
>>12309083
you can just use a dreamcast at 480p on a CRT anon. it supported VGA
>>
>>12309113
Well I'm sorry for assuming you meant a CRT TV
>>
>>12308484
I hate how perfect longplays are, I want to see the struggle and discovery.
>>
>>12309117
480i is really not bad on a CRT TV. You can barely tell the difference to 480p unless you are really sensitive to the flickering
>>
The problem with Dreamcast is I boot it up and I play Crazy Taxi. Yeah I can do Canon Spike, Ikaruga, Mars Matrix, all that shit but I just play Crazy Taxi. It's not that I don't want to play Fur Fighters and MDK2 and Headhunter, but I play Crazy Taxi. I just play Crazy Taxi. I keep playing Crazy Taxi.

Then an N64 game gets ported to it at 480p60 and you know what I do? Try it out. Then next time I play Crazy Taxi. Then after that I keep playing Crazy Taxi. Another Crazy License to add to the leaderboard, check. OK, ok, cool. Hey Mario 64 DC got finished? Well time for some Crazy Taxi!
>>
An after market controller blew out the fuse port in my Dreamcast in 2010 and I haven’t used it since. Garbage system
>>
>>12308259
The laser in mine broke just a few months ago so I modded the thing to read a 256 GB SD Card. I also collect the accessories.
>>
>>12309231
Just replace the fuse with a self-resetting one you bum. Take it apart, solder the new fuse, put it back together. done in ten minutes. Not hard for an adult.
>>
>>12308484
You're just low energy and can't move on from your comfort bubble so you always stick around the same thing over and over.
>>
>>12308484
you can't see the forest for the trees.
>>
>>12309374
Yeah this happened when I was 20 and could barely solder hot and ground to a proper lug of a pot so I destroyed it I’m pretty sure.

Was an awesome blow out model from 2000 something with red and blue controllers with matching VMUs
>>
>>12308259
I still use it but I think the power supply is going bad, sometimes it restarts abruptly when I'm using my GDemu.
>>
>>12308259
https://github.com/flyinghead/flycast/releases/tag/v2.6
no reason to use this shit anymore
>>
The laser on mine died 20 years ago
>>
>>12309483
Get a USB-C replacement. Doesn't require any soldering or anything.
>>
Only emulation. I will have emulation for the rest of my life in increasingly better quality without having to do shit or buy extra stuff. So getting used to anything else but emulation is inherently a disadvantage and unappealing for me.
>>
>>12309554
soulless creature
>>
>>12309572
This is just the cope you have to tell yourself so you still can have fun with your toy. Emulation allows me to write my own start up scripts that allow me to do literally everything at total convenience. It cannot be beaten.

Everything. I can collect anything from a game with zero effort. Just the setup took a bit of work. Everything you see here took me zero effort, basically everything gets auto inserted automatically or with one button press on controller. I'm not even going to elaborate.

From time to time I do but since I mostly play shnucks, I want savestates for practice.

I really wouldn't mind getting a gdemu or TerraOnion or whatnot but I'm not sure which type is the best bet.
>>
>>12309639
You don't play games you only say words. I have actual evidence of every game I have played.
>>
>>12308484
This is true and this is also the difference between Japanese and Western games. Games aren't movies, they are games.

You ain't playing Shenmue if you're not using a Dreamcast controller and hearing the grind of the gd-rom drive.

Never heard of this. My dreamcast that I got new in 1999 still works without any issues. Been playing burnt games on it for 20+ years too so CD-Rs wearing down the laser is clearly a myth

I too am drawn back time and again by the Crazy Taxi siren song. Let's go make some crazy money, anon.
>>
>>12308484
Some of us have a limited amount of free time and want to use it to experience new things instead of the same ones over and over.
>>
>>12310020
You're the same level as people that only play Counter Strike or World of Warcraft.
>>
>>12310020
the fact that you take gaming that seriously is the problem.
Movies is one thing, how deep do you think a snes platformer is?
>>
>>12310018
I believe it's to fix the random reset bug that occurs on many units over time. Afaik you just had to stick a wooden toothpick into a specific part of the power supply to widen a gap.
>>
>>12310056
Everything is as deep or shallow as you make it. Art only has value insofar as it provides meaning to the audience.
>>
>>12310146
uh huh. classic video games arent that deep.
>>

>Anons who don't care to re-experience media don't appreciate it beyond a surface level
Well done proving the point anon
>>
>>12310032
We all have limited time, media consumers who use that time looking for the next new thing shows they only care about first exposure rather than engaging any deeper like retro gamers do.
>>
>>12310045
>You play Tetris a lot which means you only play Tetris and you're incapable of playing Puyo or Bust-a-Move or Crazy Taxi or Black Knight 2000 or THPS2 or Joust or...

>>

So what do you play?
>>
>>12309654
>I have actual evidence of every game I have played.
Things you don't have: Sex.
>>
>>12310303
This is a dreamcast thread. No one here ever had sex.
>>
>>12310208
Those were a few examples of games I enjoy replaying but that aside, I prefer Taxi over Black Knight 2000 but chose a less vague sounding title for anyone unfamiliar with pinball. Funhouse is great, too. There's a local burger joint that has a Joust machine that I'll always play, they also have Donkey Kong and Burger Time too. My wife and I also enjoy competing on Tapper, but I'm usually playing Flicky or Congo Bongo at home as well. Duck Hunt, Time Crisis and Virtua Cop are light gun titles I regularly enjoy, I love replaying Daytona USA, Sega Rally Championship, Outrun, and Super Hang On, I also enjoy Neo Drift Out, hell I'll throw on Club Drive for a laugh every now and again. I'm a big fan of Neo Turf Masters but I'll play Pebble Beach Golf Links for a more chill golfing experience, can't forget NHL 94 and Tecmo Bowl either. I've got an NES with a flashcart on my kitchen table alongside a PS2 with a hard drive so I'll often find myself replaying stuff like Yume Penguin Monogatari or Bully when the mood strikes me. I'll give SMB a runthrough on my Game and Watch if I'm ever expecting to be in line somewhere, but I also have a Game Boy Color I'll bring around which also has a good selection of titles. I recently started replaying Wario Land 3 and Pokemon Red, and I just recently got a copy of Donkey Kong Land 2 to accompany my copy of Donkey Kong Land 3 which I've had for ages... Speaking of ages, I love replaying the classic Sonic series since it's one of those games that's easy to play casually or do challenge runs. I also recently finished replaying Shenmue and was going to start Shenmue 2 on Xbox.

I could keep going about the numerous games I play and replay, but that seems pointless since there's no way to verify what I'm saying nor do I believe you actually care. Asking which games I stopped playing would be a more interesting question...
>>
>>12310327
I'm just trying to understand your point. If I play DKC1, 2, 3, Returns and Tropical Freeze and you replay DKC1 5 times then who has interacted deeper with video games?
>>
>>12310334
he did because dkc1 clears those games ten fold
>>
>>12310352
DKC2 is way superior in every way.
>>
>>12310027
Tonight I was going to be play Expendable, maybe Frogger 2. Instead I'm back behind the wheel.
>>
Is Crazy Taxi really that good? As someone who has only started appreciating high score hunting recently the game has given me not too much entertainment in the past.
>>
>>12310334
Someone that has only played Pac Man for the last forty years is more of a retro gamer than someone who has played every Pac Man spinoff title. My point is that retro gamers will replay favorites because they like them which shows greater appreciation than someone who cares more about striking items off a completion list.
>>
>>12310371
It's great once you get a handle on the crazy dash, brake and turn techniques. Apparently there's even a way to do a jump, but that's much trickier to learn. A large part of the fun is scouting out the best routes; everyone spawns in the same locations and asks to go to the same destinations so you can hunt for the "ideal route" that nets the highest fares/highest score.
>>
>>12310380
>is more of a retro gamer
Someone who feels that way only cares about elitism and doesn't really love video games to begin with.
>>
>>12310371
>>12310383

People can just enjoy video games in many ways. Always trying to find ways to invalidate them makes you only a bitter faggot. When you meet a new friend that has played Time Crisis 20 years ago and tells you that he really has enjoyed it are you going to call him a casual faggot for not having replayed it or are you just going to have tons of fun in coop?
>>
>>12310418
>or are you going to have tons of fun [replaying it] in coop?
This undermines the point you were making. A person that enjoys replaying games is a retro gamer, someone who plays/completes a game once and never touches it again is a media consumer. I would not hesitate to call my friend a media consumer if my friend played Time Crisis once 20 years ago and doesn't want to ever play it again, especially when I have guncons and we can replay it right away no problem.
>>
>>12310431
I agree people that only consume something to be done with it are not really enjoying the hobby. But there are tons of games where playing them once is enough. Replaying is reserved for special games that managed to capture your heart.
>>
>>12310436
There are games that aren't worth completing at all, granted, so choosing to drop a game doesn't disqualify someone from being a retro gamer. I'm referring to a very specific archetype who, for example, gets frustrated at arcade style games for having "artificial difficulty" but refuses to drop them because they need to "prove" what a retro gamer they are and justifies cheating so they can feel included.

you don't know how to clean. Use more pressure and use some solution if the grime wont come off

Yeah I think its good to replay some games after a few years. This isnt as easy to do witth longer games though.
>>
>>12312820
if the game is fun and you enjoyed it, you'll want to replay it.
Otherwise its a chore and you finished it because you felt obligated to, which is not what entertainment and fun should be.

Yeah, I still use mine, at least a few times a year, I do have an ODE and scaler set up for it though. Dreamcast emulation was bad for so long that I sort of wrote it off, I know obviously it's a lot better now but I still prefer hardware.
