What went wrong? Was the hate overhyped?

>What went wrong?
It was an xbox exclusive and not halo. If it released multi-plat it would be a beloved game to this day.

I want to drink that soda so badly

I don't like how generic it looked when they decided to go full 3D

When I was a kid at the store I'd look at the strategy guide and think how cool the new enemies are, and then I saw screenshots of the actual game inside and questioned whether or not I'd even like it.
>>
First this was coming to ps2 and it was hyped as something that only the developers knew how to push the ps2 while others didn't. I had fun when I found it cheap but mainly thinking about oh so this is what they were hyping all this time and wondering if they achieved what they set out to do.

>Why was mediocre followup of cult and beloved game received so negatively?
Couldn't you Indians come up with better excuses to make threads about games you want to talk without reusing insincere and obvious talking points? I know the world of complex ideas is hard for you to grasp, but since you solved a captcha that might have felt like hell to your tiny brains, at least make the effort with the post too.

>instead of making it for the Sony system your previous two games made bank on, put it on a console that is only known for the dudebro shooter
Even making it GC exclusive would've make it more beloved
>>
>>12309273
It was a launch title, the Xbox didn't have any sort of reputation outside of being big, American and powerful.
>>
I remember playing it at the demo kiosk in Target and thought it was fun...
>>
>>12309004
Abandoned most of the things that made the first two games wonderful. I recall even the basic movement feeling horrible.

>GC exclusive
would've needed four discs

I love this game. I never have anyone to talk to about how cool it is.

Look at this nerd, real niggas played it at the demo kiosk at Walmart.

True. Cartoony games just don't feel right on Xbox.

>What went wrong?
It went 3D
In case of series that was double-layered 2D puzzle platformer where odds (heh) are against you this was basically changing a genre. And in some cases going from 2D to 3D doesn't work (at least on the first try) - Munch was the case. Just look at the start of the game and compare the tutorial section to Oddysee and Exoddus - mudokons are fighting enemies and Abe runs away from slogs like it's Benny Hill with zero presence of horror and dread. On some levels the aesthetics is similar to 2D games but the quality of graphics compared to pre-rendered 2D screens (not to mention that Munch is MUCH more of a 3D platformer than puzzle) makes you wonder if the hype over 3D was really worth it.
>Was the hate overhyped?
Completely changing the platform to release your series is never welcomed by fans, see Final Fantasy (Nintendo to Sony) and Monster Hunter (Sony to Nintendo). It is not up to me to say if the hate was justified or not purely because of that, but I can tell you I was really looking forward to new Oddworld.title and man was I disappointed when I finally got to play it.
>>
Xbox launching with Halo and Oddworld and Tony Hawk was the coolest shit ever.

I still remember the massive asshurt online when this game was announced as an Xbox-exclusive, almost every webcomic at the time had a page roasting the original Xbox or calling Lorne a sellout.
>>
>>12309004
I feel like the original Xbox had like 40 different forgettable 3D platformer games.
>>
>>12309004
At first I was annoyed that they went Xbox exclusive as someone who loved the PS1 games, but as soon as I saw the screenshots I knew there was no way that could run on PS2.
>>
>>12312803
it's weird, because they were all better than memorable N64 and PS1 platformers
>>
>>12309273
>Even making it GC exclusive would've make it more beloved
On the internet it would.
