name a flaw
Play MSG1... replace cool Snake with Raiden.Done.
>>12309128OP said flaw, not seal of quality
It's not a thrilling *game*. Rethreads the momentum and beats of the first (masked as meta commentary, but still lazy), with worse boss battles, more backtracking, less uninterrupted gameplay. The game's biggest fans watch youtube essays about it but they don't replay it for a reason.
>>12309121the aiming controls are pretty terrible outside of tranquing stationary targets, way too sensitive for anything past micro flicks. not such a huge deal in the main campaign but you definitely feel it in the vr missions.
you get the hf blade way too late

I've never found 2, 3 or 4 easy to go back to. Doubly so since V. They all have this clunkiness to them that makes me really need to force myself into finishing them on a replay.
>>12309157this, for real
>>12309167what about 1?
>>12309149>more backtracking, less uninterrupted gameplay.I'm not sure if I agree with this. both games have the terminal story ramp up but the tanker+big shell 1 feels pretty gameplay dense compared to mgs1's regular gameplay stage.
>>12309121it has the same issue mgs1 does with difficulty balance. on normal having 5 ration slots is completely out of sync with how much damage enemies and bosses do, outside of gimmicky instant fails it's basically improbable that you'd ever die. hard on the other hand in return for tightening up damage and health modifies every datapoint in the game against the player to the point where it feels cheesy and tedious a lot of the time.
>>12309121a lot of things i like about the game stop after you beat the harrier
>>12309157Yeah this—- they could have and maybe still could make a raiden game between mgs2 and mgs4 and just make it its own contained story. I think they went a little too far with raiden in revengence but hes still cool. but I think his look in mgs4 may be the best. Hard to say.
>>12309121Snake part isn't longer You can't kill RoseSolidus is treated as a bad guy instead of a hero.Overall, a masterpiece game still.I used it for my Master's Computer Ethics presentation, and made some student interested enough to play the game
>>12309121It's on the PS2
>>12309121>ocelot vs olga>raven vs fatman>hind d vs harrier>mantis vs vamp>rex vs rays>ninja/liquid vs soliduswhich do you side with in each case? I think the only one I feel strongly about is the hind being superior to the harrier. feel like it does a better job of faking a more organic duel rather than just being a transparent minigame collection.
>>12309138Fellow grittyandrealisticbros…We were shown the demo… badass Snake fighting Ganondorf.Instead, we got GAY BABY RAIDEN sailing on A BOAT. Kojima stock crashed that day. They fucked with us, GAMERS, and they got what they deserved.
>>12309121Raiden.
>>12309121Fatman boss fight
>>12309121I feel like if you take away the cutscenes and all the backtracking, it's actually a very small game in scope. Better than the previous game in that regard but not much.
>>12309121Need a memory card to save progress.PS2 load times are concentrated asswater.Skateboard game and a few extra models in Casting Theatre don't make up for any of this.>>12309167>I've never found 2, 3 or 4 easy to go back toNon-human detected.
>>12309121Long cutscenes that interrupt gameplayThe Big Shell is horribly designedTerrible.boss.battles save for Snake vs OlgaRaidenThat being said, the commentary is pretty great and the Tanker section is still excellent. I like the enemy AI as well.
>>12309121The gameplay bits. MGS2 is a decent movie, but it's boring as shit to actually play.
>>12309138>Metal Solid Gear 1
>>12309128BasedFpbp
>>12309167I totally agree anon, Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain ruined old MGS for me.
>>12309138cool snake was on psp
>>12309368>Alucardfag
>>12309180nta but 1 is so simple there's no room for clunk>inb4 there's no gameplay eithervr missionsI'd say biggest flaw is 30 fps input lag
>>12309867I wish 3 onwards had some sort of equivalent to the VR missions of 1 and 2. Something that really pushes you to use all of the gameplay mechanics. At least TPP being a sandbox gives you scope to fuck around.
>>12309167I disagree desu. 2 and 3 aren't perfect but when you're in the grove they're smooth enough, 4 seems completely fine, don't know why you'd find it clunky specifically, being not as refined as mgsv doesn't equal clunky.
>>12309946*you're in the groove
>I need to vomit exposition at the player but don't have the budget for it>I know, CODEC CALL, even though we're standing right in front of each otherFucking retarded.
>>12309121I really can't, except the pleathora of cutscenes you have to skip through on playthroughs. It's my absolute favorite game of all time, but good god is it hard. I never could beat EE Extreme, or get Boss ranks, or complete all of the VR missions. Some are just too damn hard.
>>12310175you might not like it but most of mgs's texture comes from it being able to approximate low cost dialogue presentation from visual novels and text box rpgs. wouldn't have 1/10th of the context strictly with animated cutscenes.
>>12309546Yeah, maybe. It's fine until you get to Euro Extreme and then it feels like RNG. I wound up with bomb locations that I'm 100% sure weren't physically possible to disarm in time.Extreme mode is where a lot of the cracks start to show tbqh. Like, the Solidus choke isn't even fair.
