Here's your 1996 game.
>>
looks good
>>
>AVAILABLE IN YOUR HOME IN 1997 ONLY FOR SEGA BLACKBELT
>>
I do feel that all of this shit is completely wasted on boring racing games with little content stretched out for the arcade. Yeah it looks really cool though very soulful.
>>
>>12309232
Racing and fighting were always the two most popular genres for 3D tech demos.
>>
Weird. This is the same year mario 64 was released, right? How does that make sense?
>>
>>12309232
>boring racing games
Spiritual enemy.
>>
It's a shame Scud Race and Daytona USA 2 were made to play badly on purpose by that absolute HACK Nagoshit.
>>
>>12309252
Home consoles are cost reduced to oblivion to make them attractive to regular consumers. Arcade manufacturers can put a >$10,000 price tag on a machine which plays one game and expect steady sales.
>>
hold the fuck up OP - I think that is my webm! I recognise that terrible driving anywhere.
>>
>>12309289
I stole it from archives. Post the rest.
>>
>>12309292
You want to see some random screenshots?
>>
>>12309306
Yeah why not.
>>
>>12309318
okay, quality not guaranteed

Post Hot Wheels Racing for PSX.
>>
Why are there no missiles in this game

Nagoshi "banned" 1 - 3 - 4 drifting in Scub/Daytona 2 because it was unintended in Daytona 1. Classic case of a hack developer seething about people not playing their game "the right way". Now the drifting feels slippery and imprecise.
>>
>>12309252
The same year as Quake, Tomb Raider, Donkey Kong Country 3, and even Pokemon gen 1. WTF???
>>
>>12309212
this looks sick as fuck

Nigga this runs on the Model 3 which Sega developed with Lockheed Martin. This was literally state-of-the-art military video game tech. With inflation these machines would cost like $30,000 for a sit-down racing cab
>>
>>12310604
It really is false advertising, I still want my god damn quarter back.
>>
The lack of shading makes it look like shit.
The hi-res textures coupled with simple architecture make it look like one of those old fan made "high resolution packs" for old FPS games.
>>
>>12310961
Congrats, you just won the "absolute zero taste" award
>>
>>12310961
I like the shitty looks though it makes it look like smash bros melee
>>
>>12309212
I fucking despise scud race and Daytona 2
Nagoshi purposefully fucked the driving model from Daytona USA out of sheer spite because people weren't playing it the way HE wanted (gear drift)

There actually is shading if you look carefully but for some reason it's not very pronounced in a lot of Sega games from the mid to late 90s, so they sometimes look like there's almost no shading at all
>>
>>12309242
Worst genres to waste amazing graphical power on. Light gun games are the ones that deserve it (Virtual Cop, Time Crisis etc.)
>>
>>12310604
S.C.U.D, not scud ackshually.

anon....
>>
>>12309212
How can I emulate this?
>>
>>12311269
I think that dude doesn't really like Nagoshi... I might be wrong though
>>
Is Scud Race worth emulating or am I better off just playing the tracks in Outrun 2?
>>
>>12309212
too many polygons making up that car

Retard.
Its clearly not an unpopular opinion though kek
>>
>>12311389
Supermodel 3, but getting it to control adequately is problematic since it was intended to be played with a wheel.
>>
>>12311461
It isn't too bad with auto transmission but manual is a pain to configure on a controller.
>>
>>12311465
It uses Daytona's H-pattern 4-shifter, right?

The way it was done on the PS3 and 360 is they assigned one face button to each gear (so Square/X is 1, Triangle/Y is 2, X/A is 3, and Circle/B is 4).
>>
>>12311456
what youtube essay did you guys just watch?
>>
>>12309252
>Why do arcade games have better hardware than home consoles? That's illogical!
>>
>>12309270
>>12310790
That's a lot of quarters just to pay off your investment, were arcades really getting that much business?

Fuck the hate I like Daytona 2. And swapping out the cool dinosaur jungle stadium with a boring generic racetrack in power edition was a huge mistake.
>>
>>12312592
>>
>>12311105
I tried playing this with a direct drive wheel recently and was wondering why I couldn't gear drift like Daytona. What a dumb hill for a dev to die on. At least the Daytona ports kept the gear drifting in.
