If you're supposed to regularly swap the batteries in your devices, how come this January 2001 Duracel I just pulled out of my Perfect Dark (GBC) hasn't corroded?

I've had Energizer batteries in shit like clocks and remotes for YEARS without so much as a drop leaked. I had a flashlight that I put Duracell's into and it completely ruined the flashlight with corrosive leakage after 5 months.
